WHO WE ARE

The Aarhus branch close to the Port of Aarhus.

JAS Denmark is a leading logistics and freight forwarding company that is connected to the global network of JAS Worldwide. We see ourselves as a "GLOCAL" company. This word embodies the terms local and global, which best sums up our philosophy: an international mindset embodied in a local, Danish context.

Currently, we have two branches in Denmark: Copenhagen and Aarhus. The teams of both branches believe that “people make the difference”. We are therefore dedicated to providing you with a personal service and tailor-made freight solutions.

Today, our team provides international freight forwarding solutions within rail-, air- and sea freight (LCL & FCL) that allows us to offer door-to-door solutions. European road freight is also among our services. All our freight solutions are linked by a global IT-system that provides real-time tracking.

We offer several “Value Added Services” such as customs clearance, Supply Chain Management solutions/Contract Logistics, distribution and our own warehouse facilities in Aarhus and Copenhagen.

We invite you to browse our service offerings. If these do not fulfil your needs, we can tailor our flexible services to suit your requirements.

UPDATED Customer Advisory: Red Sea Attacks and Suez Canal Bypass

Current Situation
While eleven weeks have passed since the Red Sea crisis began, the immediate situation remains tense and unpredictable. We continue to see a concerting uptick in attack frequency, highlighting the region's dynamic and volatile nature. The first vessel incident with an oil leak also impacting the environment has been registered.

Industry Insights, Facts & Market Developments

Below are some additional key facts and market developments surrounding the situation, including a timeline of major events.

  • Drewry's WCI composite index has dropped another 2% this week, bringing the total decline to 9.23% over the past month. This decline is further emphasized by specific routes, with the Asia to North Europe index witnessing a 20% drop from its peak six weeks ago, and the Asia to Mediterranean index experiencing a 24% decrease.
  • Sea-Intelligence reliability data releasing January data points now indicated 51.6% of vessels are on time only. While expected, it is the lowest since September 2022. This results in an average delay of 6.01 days.
  • While CMA-CGM continues to route select vessels via the Suez, alliance partner COSCO Shipping also seems to be planning to resume using the Suez routing, given their latest schedule updates on upcoming voyages.
  • US CENTCOM reported successful engagement and destruction of a variety of drones, missiles, and drone boats before they were utilized.
  • UKMTO (United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations) reported multiple vessel attacks in the Bab al-Mandeb Straight in the past 48 hours.
  • The Yemeni Houthi militia claimed responsibility for the attack on the MV 'Rubymar' (dating back to February 18th). As of February 24th, the vessel remained anchored in the Red Sea, continuing to leak oil. The recorded oil slick was measured at 18 miles (29 kilometers) at the time. With the commodity being identified as fertilizer, environmental concerns and the risk of combustion and further pollution increased. Salvage options and the future of the vessel remain unclear.

Our Commitment
JAS Worldwide will continue to monitor the situation and keep you duly updated. Our public website update will occur once per week, every Friday.

UPDATED Customer Advisory: Red Sea Attacks and Suez Canal Bypass

Current Situation

Two and a half months into the crisis, the immediate risk situation in the Red Sea has not improved, and multiple new attacks with high frequency have been witnessed in the region this past week. The long-term impact on container shipping remains uncertain. Continued geopolitical tensions, logistical challenges, and potential for disruptions contribute to an environment of volatility. Shippers and industry stakeholders are advised to remain informed and adjust their strategies accordingly.

Industry Insights, Facts & Market Developments

Below are some additional key facts and market developments surrounding the situation, including a timeline of major events.

  • Drewry’s WCI composite index, indicates a further 2% decline compared to last week. It is important to note that although the Index has decreased, it is still significantly higher than pre-pandemic levels and the 10-year average.
  • Spot rates from the US East Coast to Asia begin to rise, mirroring the earlier increases observed on European and Mediterranean routes reported last week.
  • Both MSC and Maersk announced additional vessels to be deployed on their Transpacific service due to the extended Cape of Good Hope route.
  • Hapag Lloyd reported two days ago that the Red Sea and Suez Canal routes continue to be avoided. A shuttle service connecting Red Sea cargo via Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to Europe, North America, and Latin America has been implemented.
  • CMA-CGM had one 16,000 TEU vessel complete its southbound transit two days ago with others clearly intending to plan to transit in the coming week. The same information seems to be reflected in the carriers’ official schedules.
  • Industry experts again urge shippers to review their insurance coverage for transit, cargo loss and General Average.
  • US CENTCOM successfully continued to conduct strikes against missile launchers on land, preventing use this past week. Counter activities included intercepting a drone submarine launched by the Houthis.

Our commitment

JAS Worldwide will continue to monitor the situation and keep you duly updated. Our public website update will occur once per week, every Friday.

Setting Sail Towards Sustainability: The Impact of California's Vessel Speed Reduction Program on Blue Whales and Beyond

Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies is a voluntary Vessel Speed Reduction (VSR) Program along the coast of California which incentivizes companies to incorporate sustainable shipping practices across their global supply chain. By creating seasonal and predictable slow speed zones, this program helps companies protect endangered whales, reduce fuel use and regional greenhouse gas emissions, and improve air quality and human health outcomes.

The program runs each year from mid-May to December to coincide with peak ozone and whale feeding and migration. The program covers two geographic regions, one along the Southern California coast and one outside the San Francisco Bay Area.

Since 2014, the program has achieved an estimated 44% decrease in the risk of whale strikes.

As an ambassador, JAS engages with its shipping partners operating in the area, recognizes the shared vision and commitment with those already involved in vessel speed reduction, and further encourages other ocean carriers to participate in the program.

“What makes the BWBS initiative stand out is that it not only addresses carbon emissions, but also safeguards biodiversity. By voluntarily reducing vessel speed (VSR) along the California coast, ocean carriers commit to protecting blue whales and raising industry awareness. JAS supports this initiative and will further engage its logistics partners on the key role whales play in the environment and our responsibility to improve the ocean ecosystem.” -Andrea Goeman, SVP QHSE & Sustainability, JAS Worldwide
“Being an ambassador for the BWBS Program is a great initiative towards more sustainable ocean freight solutions. It is a way to further engage with our carriers, with whom we share values towards a sustainable transformation, and an example of how collaboration can be beneficial for the logistics ecosystem, our customers, and the environment.” -Lars Huebecker, EVP Global Head of Ocean Freight

our top story

In the heart of the JAS Worldwide New York office, two extraordinary women, Grisel Henriquez, and Ana Olivo, are rewriting the narrative for survivors of domestic violence through their nonprofit organization, ALNUA.

JAS Women Bridging the Gap for Domestic Violence Survivors

In the heart of the JAS Worldwide New York office, two extraordinary women, Grisel Henriquez, and Ana Ruth Olivo, are rewriting the narrative for survivors of domestic violence through their nonprofit organization, ALNUA: Alzando Nuestras Alas (translated in English to Raising Our Wings). As we celebrate International Women's Month, it's essential to highlight the remarkable efforts of women like Grisel and Ana Ruth, who are making a profound community impact beyond their successful full-time careers.

Established in mid-2020, ALNUA was born out of a shared vision to provide resources, information, education, and support to women navigating the complexities of domestic and intrafamily violence. For many survivors, breaking free from the vicious cycle of abuse can seem impossible. ALNUA aims to be the guiding light, offering a path to empowerment and healing.

Grisel Henriquez began her journey at JAS in July 2022 as an Account Lead. Due to her exceptional performance and hard work, she was promoted to Warehouse Supervisor in 2023. Her professional success, however, pales in comparison to her personal triumphs. As a survivor of domestic violence herself, Grisel's courage to share her story inspired countless others. In July 2020, she authored her book, "Mariposa de Acero" (Steel Butterfly), which became a best-seller in three categories on Amazon within 24 hours of its formal launch. But for Grisel, this was just the beginning.

Ana Ruth Olivo, also based in the JAS New York office, joined JAS as an administrative assistant in March 2022. Alongside her professional endeavors, Ana Ruth has pursued personal growth through education, completing a Neuro-linguistic program (NLP), a communication tool that helps influence behaviors through language – a skill that would prove essential in her nonprofit work. Her dedication to making a difference has been recognized by the Council of Paterson City, NJ, for Outstanding Civic Contribution.

The year 2020 brought exceptional challenges, particularly for victims of domestic violence. As shelter-in-place orders swept the globe, reports of domestic violence surged. Victims found themselves trapped at home, with limited avenues for escape. Grisel, along with her friend and fellow JAS colleague Ana Ruth, recognized the urgent need for action. Equipped with Grisel's first-hand knowledge and Ana Ruth's empathetic nature, they founded ALNUA: Alzando Nuestras Alas.

ALNUA's mission extends far beyond directing victims to resources. It's about fostering a society free of violence, instilling self-love and empowerment among survivors, equipping them with the tools and resources needed to reclaim their lives. Through career development workshops, access to counseling services, and outreach programs, ALNUA is creating a supportive network where women can find the courage to spread their wings and soar to new heights.

What began as a team of two has blossomed into a thriving network of volunteers – from lawyers to psychologists offering a range of services tailored to meet survivors’ needs. In 2024, JAS’s philanthropy organization, the Bruni Foundation, got on board with ALNUA’s mission, enabling its expansion on a global scale. In November 2024, ALNUA will visit girls’ shelters in the Dominican Republic to continue its advocacy efforts and raise awareness about the resources available for victims of domestic violence – regardless of age or gender.

As we celebrate International Women's Month, let us honor the resilience, determination, and dedication of women like Grisel Henriquez and Ana Ruth Olivo. Their tireless efforts through ALNUA serve as a testament to the power of women empowering women and remind us that together, we can break the cycle of violence and build a brighter future for all.

Follow ALNUA's journey on social media and join us in supporting their mission to uplift and empower survivors of domestic violence. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those in need.
