JAS China meets the rapid demand for pharma
JAS China meets the rapid demand for pharma

Since the pandemic began, the pharmaceutical industry has experienced rapid growth. As the need for quality pharmaceuticals to treat diseases of all kinds continues to increase, logistics services and solutions also must keep up with the rapid pace. According to market data, China’s temperature-controlled expert increased 16 percent on a year-over-year basis between January and July 2021.

In partnership with one of the leading developing, manufacturing, and repair service companies for air cargo equipment, JAS China has positioned itself to serve pharma’s expanding needs through the launch of a new successful logistic project managing airfreight temperature-controlled containers in Beijing. Thanks to the recent service expansion, JAS China can confidently provide full domestic services. Customers can request warehousing, trucking and container management, and air freight services to cover the entire pharmaceutical supply chain to benefit global consumers.

JAS China’s pharmaceutical logistics team received training on temperature-controlled container transport with its partner company. The collaboration provides an excellent opportunity for JAS China’s team to share the new service with potential pharmaceutical customers in need, adding extra value to its customers in the future.

In addition to the official training from its new partner, JAS China’s staff completed additional training on temperature-controlled cargo to fortify its understanding of the general process involved with transporting temperature-controlled containers. JAS China’s leadership plans to continue professional development to help the team stay abreast of industry trends for temperature-controlled container logistics.

Pharmaceutical companies interested in learning how JAS China can meet their rapid growth needs can reach out to the team today for more information.

JAS Hong Kong along with JAS Indonesia and JAS USA, Air Charter Solutions.

Simultaneously moving charters from Jakarta, Indonesia to Chicago, Illinois (USA) takes solid coordination skills. JAS Hong Kong put its expertise to the test in recent weeks via a collaboration with the logistics teams from JAS Indonesia and JAS USA (Chicago). The task at hand involved moving a tailor-made charter solution for moving ready-made garments between the two countries for a valued client.

After much consideration on the best way to move the product, the teams decided to transport via a Boeing 777 commercial freighter. A combination of belly and cabin loading was used to optimize the shipment, which included 3,100 cartons of garments. Configuring the load this way helped prevent the cargo from scattering during transport, which was a requirement of the customer.

Since the start of the pandemic, securing fleets and aircrew for commercial freighters can be challenging. With a little brainstorming and ingenuity from the JAS Hong Kong, Indonesia, and USA teams, they acquired the charter transport needed to provide a smooth move from the APAC region to the US.

Customers can benefit from the solid coordination demonstrated by the JAS Hong Kong procurement team. The crew will handle two more charter requests before the end of October and looks forward to serving more customers through its solid coordination and cooperation efforts with JAS teams around the globe.

JAS Japan is pleased to announce that it relocated its Nagoya branch to a larger and more modern office space to accommodate its business growth at the end of August.

Established in 2001, the Nagoya office began as a small sales branch. However, by 2014, the Nagoya branch became fully operational. It expanded its services with an office at Nagoya Centrair Airport to offer in-house air freight consolidation and customs clearance services to clients.

With the opening of the new location, the Nagoya branch will be serving as a platform for investment and growth with the addition of a brand-new ocean freight export operations team.

The Nagoya branch also offers a strategic connotation due to its geographic location in the Aichi prefecture, the fourth largest metropolis in Japan. As a manufacturing powerhouse, the city represents just over 11% of Japan’s GDP and is the center of the Japanese automotive, aerospace, and machinery industries.

It pays to have strong relationships with manufacturers and importers in the marble, stone, and ceramic tile industry. Since 2017, JAS Indonesia has built a reputation as a premier logistics provider for this vertical market.

The years of experience and professionalism exhibited by the JAS Indonesia team is unparalleled. Customers requiring the transport of ceramic tiles, marbles, stones, and machinery for processing marble, sanitary ware, bathroom furniture, and accessories know they can receive quality service from the JAS team.

Years of networking and relationship-building within the industry have led to solid connections with suppliers in Italy, Izmir, and Xiamen. As an additional benefit, JAS Indonesia managing director Franceschino Menconi has lived in Carrara, Italy giving him a personal connection to many suppliers. He goes the extra mile to arrange meetings between buyers and suppliers to discuss how JAS Indonesia’s expertise in the industry can benefit them in the future. With offices in Carrara, it is easier for JAS Indonesia to build buyer and supplier trust.

Recently, the JAS Indonesia team moved 11 containers of unpolished travertine blocks and 4 containers of unpolished marble slabs for a customer. As part of its services, the JAS team:

  • Picks up blocks directly from quarries using heavy equipment with a capacity of up to 30 tons or via drop-deck trucks with a capacity of up to 60 tons.
  • Handles blocks in the depots using specialized equipment that loads them into shipping containers.
  • Sends shipping containers to appropriate ports for transport.

Customers can rely on JAS Indonesia to provide end-to-end logistics services for their ceramic tiles, marbles, and stones that protect the products at all stages.

JAS India Elevates Its Game with Office Relocation

JAS India new headquarters.
JAS India new headquarters.

In keeping with its mission and momentum for growth, JAS India recently announced a move for its corporate office. Investing in a modern workspace at a prime location, JAS India continues to provide team members with access to collaborative work environments with reliable infrastructure.  The new building’s unique architecture, color and design represent the true spirit of JAS India.

The move to its new location marks the beginning of another chapter in JAS India’s history. A soft opening for the new corporate office location happened on August 20. Tomas Sonntag, Executive Vice President of Asia Pacific, Sonal Singhal, Managing Director of JAS India, and Stefano Olmi, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Asia Pacific, presided over the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

To celebrate the move to its brand-new India headquarters, JAS India also launched its JAS India Reload Program. This innovative program represents the changed culture and identity of the subsidiary and sets the platform for its ambitious growth plans in India.

It is a pleasure to be a part of JAS India's rebirth, this is what I would like to call it[a rebirth]since the ultimate intention really was to bring the JAS global corporate culture to India too, culture that really never existed before in JAS India. It was definitely a tough endeavor, it is a tough endeavor to change the DNA of a company, [to change]at all how it functions, because naturally every human being is not really so comfortable with change, therefore sometimes Sonal and I had to face some really tough decisions. But the outcome of these decisions ultimately is the results you see today in this organization. This new office with it's unique architecture, colors, and spirit really represents cutting away from the past, it shows the true colors of JAS India, it shows its new identity, and you should be proud of it. You should feel really a part of it because people are the ones who ultimately make the difference. " Stefano Olmi JAS VP Sales & Market, Asia Pacific

JAS Hong Kong provides assembly and process with gaming accessories partner

As the consumer market recovers in 2021, logistics services and supply chain management requirements have become increasingly challenging and cover more than just transportation and warehousing. JAS Hong Kong has always thought one step ahead for its customers. Therefore, in Q2 2021, the JAS Hong Kong logistics team successfully launched a product assembly program for a world-leading gaming accessories provider.

The partnership between JAS Hong Kong and the customer began in 2012. Over the last nine years the project has increased more than threefold. The customer's success is due not only to the exponential growth of the gaming market but also its continuous launch of new products and promotional combo/bundle sets. Each bundle consists of 3 or 4 products, which include items such as a gaming keyboard, mouse, and headset. The latest launch was in the summer of 2021 and entered the US market through megastores or e-Commerce platforms. JAS Hong Kong exclusively handled the entire assembly process including material sourcing and procurement, system support, assembly-line operation, and space and human resources management.

The bundle set program was carried out over the course of 3 months in 2021. During this period, over 40 additional workers per day were deployed for a total of 36 working days. Over 50,000 sets were constructed and shipped to the United States in 23 containers (40'HQ) under the supervision of the JAS team.

Of the project Jason Tse, Logistics Manager for JAS Hong Kong, said “The hassle-free solution designed by the JAS team enabled the customer to focus its resources on product design, sales, and marketing knowing JAS would make the rest of the process worry free.”

JAS continually provides service that meets and exceeds every industry standard as well as our customers’ expectations. JAS is confident that there are more successful partnerships ahead.

July 19, 2021

JAS China has always gone an extra mile in servicing customers with a personal level of care, and this time JAS is pleased to announce the development of a customized E-Commerce solution for a well known outdoor sports client, one of the most popular brands in Europe.

To cope with the brand’s on-going market expansion in China via e-Commerce platforms (e.g. T-Mall and JD), the JAS China logistics team displayed its professionalism by tailoring the customized warehousing and delivery solution for the client’s B2C demands. The e-Commerce solution includes the most complex process among all; system linkage – wherein JAS works closely with the client’s 3rd party system provider in linking up 21 data-interfaces between WMS system and client’s 2 ERP systems. This system network works on 24/7 end-to-end basis in order to enable orders generated and transmitted on real-time basis, where order status can be also monitored transparently. This enables our client to optimize its logistics planning and bring the best and smoothest online purchase experience to its customers.

The e-Commerce solution has been kick-started at JAS China’s Shanghai warehouse starting toward the end of June 2021. JAS is confident that projects like this will bring success to the brand in China’s ever-growing consumer market.

By
July 15, 2021

JAS Worldwide offers innovative solutions to meet the needs of its logistics and transportation clients. Safe and secure shipping for ocean freight that exceeds standard-size shipping containers and cargo bins is one of our specialties.

JAS Xiamen is pleased to announce its successful first arrangement of a break-bulk vessel. This ocean shipping method was necessary to accommodate a professional offshore technical services enterprise in China. The solution is one of the many ways JAS Worldwide rises to the challenge of today’s complicated logistics environment.

The safe and secure passage was provided courtesy of a charted vessel outfitted to carry the 290,000-plus kilograms of 300mt Pedestal Mounted Cranes (PMC). The cargo departed from the Port of Zhangzhou, Fujian, with a destination of Qidong, Jiangsu.

“It is a mark of great success for our team,” said Steven Su, JAS Xiamen branch manager. “They will use the experience gained from this project to develop further logistics businesses in related vertical markets.”

Chinese roast pig-cutting ceremony is one of the most iconic traditions in Chinese culture. As the tradition goes, if you are able to cut through the pig in one strike (remember, there are bones in the way), you will enjoy a smooth and prosperous year. Thus, the pig-cutting ceremony can be often seen at the beginning of the year, or at the opening ceremony of new companies, etc. in China.

Of course, the JAS Hong Kong team is not an exception in following this tradition. Thanks to the support and trust from customers, JAS has overcome the unprecedented challenges faced by last year and successfully reached our business goals in 2020! In order to send gratitude to and thank customers for such a good year of the Rat and to also welcome the year of the Ox, a Chinese thanks-giving ceremony was hosted at the JAS Tsing Yi Warehouse. Andrea Azzimonti, Vice President Sales & Marketing, and Wing Chan, JAS Hong Kong Branch Manager & Director of Supply Chain of China including Hong Kong, represented JAS China and Hong Kong in the pig-cutting ceremony. In the world of freight forwarding and logistics, speed and smooth delivery are one of the key goals to hit. Hence, the belief that the smooth one-strike of the cutting ceremony will bring smooth traffic in air, water, road, and so forth to the continued journey to success!

JAS takes this opportunity, to wish you a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous Year in the Year of the Ox!

Happy International Customs Day from JAS China

By
Aries Yuen
January 26, 2021

Happy International Customs Day from all of us at JAS Worldwide! As we recognize International Customs Day, we would like to thank our JAS China Logistics team for all that they have done this past year to help customers navigate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) regulations and become Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) authorized.

Since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, countries worldwide saw an increased demand for PPE. With China being the world's largest PPE manufacturer, many customers needed to know how to navigate PPE export regulations from China.

The JAS China Logistics team understood these concerns and helped customers navigate the regulations by preparing a PPE Export-related Operational Manual. This covered the detailed requirements related to suppliers' qualifications, certifications, packaging, and cargo description based on China's official regulations. These requirements changed day-by-day when the demand initially emerged in the market. Therefore, the JAS China Logistics Team closely monitored the latest changes and created a total of 8 versions of the Operational Manual for customers between March and May 2020. This ensured the latest updates were provided to customers so that they would have access to the most up-to-date information.

Throughout this time, JAS managed customs declaration documents for customers to ensure shipments reached their destinations on time. In addition, the JAS China Logistics Team provided a critical service for customers dealing with PPE export cargo by ensuring all documents were in order, as any mistake in customs declaration documents could result in delays of customs clearance, cargo space booking, and cargo departure. The JAS China Logistics Team consistently provided this important document-checking service before customs declaration, and this extra measure helped customers avoid any potential cargo delays.

The PPE export regulations provided a list of approved PPE suppliers, often called a 'white list.' Any suppliers outside the 'white list' cannot export PPE overseas. Based on our overseas customers' requirements, the JAS China Logistics Team went the extra mile by verifying the PPE supplier's qualifications, documents, and packaging to ensure all regulations were met and there were no delays in the export process.

While guiding customers through the complex PPE export requirements, the JAS China team became certified as an Authorized Economic Operator – AEO. The certificate covers all of Mainland China, and its accreditation reflects the high level of security and legality in our trade compliance. It is recognized globally as a mark of quality, strengthening JAS' capability to offer a full range of premium Value-Added Services to our clients in China.

This International Customs Day, we are thankful for all of the ways that the JAS China team has gone above and beyond in guiding our customers through the customs process. Our people truly do make the difference!

By
Dan Snodgrass
December 1, 2020

Over the last several months JAS Thailand, in conjunction with JAS Italy, has been partnering with Schweitzer Project as they update one of the most popular and largest shopping malls in Bangkok. Schweitzer engaged JAS to ship furniture and refrigerators to the mall location starting in October.

Orathai Jitithikulchai, working out of Bangkok, led the JAS team that coordinated the necessary FCL shipments from Italy, Hungary, Poland, and China. The containers were unloaded in Bangkok and their contents meticulously delivered to the shopping mall based on detailed orders from the client. Considering the fragile nature of the goods, JAS performed the delicate process of delivery to the mall after-hours, usually from 10 pm until late in the night.

The JAS team put in substantial effort to carefully monitor the proper handling of the delivery, unpacking, and assembling of the furniture and refrigerators at the site. The attention to detail paid by JAS was praised by the client who qualified our overall performance as “great teamwork”.

Schweitzer was counting on JAS' expertise and experience to import and install the furniture and refrigerators. JAS Thailand is proud to accomplish such a comprehensive scope of service, from door-to-door. The results of the effort now allow mall visitors to enjoy an enhanced shopping experience.

October 9, 2020

On the 21st of September, the State Council of the People’s Republic of China issued the Notice [GuoFa (2020) No. 10] on “Issuing the General Plan for the Beijing, Hunan and Anhui Pilot Free Trade Zones and the Regional Expansion Plan of the Zhejiang Pilot Free Trade Zone”, announcing the increase of the existing Pilot Free Trade Zones to include three new zones in Beijing, Anhui, and Hunan and to further expand the Zhejiang Pilot Free Trade Zone.

The recent expansion of the project will bring the total number of Pilot FTZs in China to 21; these FTZs are important pilot projects which assist the development of market reformation in the rest of China. Each of the pilot zones has been attributed specific tasks and has received special market considerations to reflect so.

The Beijing Pilot FTZ will be focused on science-tech innovation, international commerce, and high-tech industries, covering up to 119 km2, and will contribute, together with the existing Hebei Pilot FTZ and Tianjin Pilot FTZ, to promote the development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

The Hunan Pilot FTZ will include several areas in Changsha, Yueyang, and Chenzhou, to promote and develop the Central China region and the corridor between the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Greater Bay area in Southern China. The Pilot FTZ aims to become an advanced manufacturing center.

The Anhui Pilot FTZ, the third new FTZ announced in 2020, would include three areas in Hefei, Wuhu, and Bengbu, focusing on the high-tech industries and promoting the further development of the Belt and Road Initiative.

The establishment of the FTZs in Hunan and Anhui is seen as a move to enable less-developed provinces to become more appealing to high-quality manufacturing, attract investment and boost efficiency, drawing investment in from their bordering provinces of Guangdong and Jiangsu.

The Notice also announces the expansion of the already existing Zhejiang Pilot Free Trade Zone by adding 119 km2 covering three areas in Ningbo, Hangzhou, and Jinyi and aiming to develop an international trading hub for commodities and agricultural products and to become a vital innovation center.

JAS covers the major provinces and cities in China, our team is always here to help our customers in identifying potential business opportunities and help them to face any challenges in supply chain with the best-fit solutions.

However, pharmaceutical companies are taking center stage in the Covid-19 fight, and one of these is a Korean conglomerate, SK Group, is seeing growth on the stock market and a new burst of innovation in the infectious disease landscape as the race for treatment approval for a Covid-19 therapy takes off.

SK Group, the 2nd largest group in Korea after Samsung with an annual revenue of $213.6B in 2018, has two arms of pharmaceutical subsidiaries, SK Pharmteco, the pharmaceutical intermediate, and API manufacturer & SK Biopharmaceuticals, the new drug development.

With support from JAS APAC & JAS Worldwide, JAS Korea has become a contracted freight forwarding business partner for SK Biotek as of last December, then after months of implementation period, JAS has been handling various types of Pharmaceutical export shipments by Air & Ocean to additional International Pharmaceutical companies in Europe.

Due to the nature of the cargo, pharmaceutical products, they must be mostly carried by air freight, using special equipment such as dry ice gel/ ice pack, cool/ reefer truck, temperature-controlled storage, and even RKNs which require thorough knowledge and experience to handle such a commodity properly and in a timely manner.

The RKN e1 is a one pallet size container, based on a second-generation active temperature control system and utilizes compressor cooling and electric heating technology, to meet the requirements of the pharmaceutical industry for smaller air shipments.

The RKN e1 container maintains product temperatures in the +2 to +8 °C range, controlled room temperature (+15 to +25 °C) range,  JAS Korea has successfully arranged 11 RKN e1 for its door to door delivery to a Spanish Pharmaceutical consignee with Dap term in March, when the Pandemic was in the peak.

SK Pharmteco’s subsidiary, AMPAC is one of the strategic partners to a U.S. public benefit drug manufacturing corporation, which recently received federal government funding of $354 million for advanced manufacturing of America’s most essential medicines at risk of shortage, including those for the COVID-19 response. With its strategic partners, it has initiated manufacturing chemical precursor ingredients, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), and finished dosage forms for over a dozen essential medicines to treat hospitalized patients with COVID-19-related illnesses.

SK Biotek will supply pharmaceutical intermediates to AMPAC and has appointed JAS Korea as the logistics provider for this project. The 1st air shipment was exported to AMPAC in California, USA by suing 5 x RKN e 1 in close cooperation with JAS San Francisco on June 15th, all 5 x RKNs were successfully delivered to AMPAC on the next day. After the ingredient’s analysis main orders will be placed shortly and JAS will continue to handle this business. Next opportunity will be export business out of AMPAC to overseas with the finished products.

JAS Korea is continuing to expand their reputation as the perfect solution for the transportation of pharmaceutical products in the market with these continued efforts excellent team-work. We are sure JAS will be leading the market in a near future.

JAS China Provides Green Store Delivery Service

By
River He
January 16, 2020

JAS China is pleased to announce its partnership with two of the world's top fast fashion groups. Fast fashion refers to fashion retailers who are able to move from the catwalk to retail market quickly.

Starting in 2019 JAS began providing green store delivery using electric vehicles for these businesses, covering more than 40 shops in 5 cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, Langfang, and Tangshan in North China. The estimated volume being transported is currently at 20,000 CBM/year, with the the store delivery service in Beijing having an on-time delivery performance of 99% specifically.

All by means of electric vehicles, JAS China picks up the replenishment from the warehouse, delivers to the stores across Beijing city, and sends back the empty recycling boxes to the warehouse.

The service is offered non-stop, year-round, with a maximum of 3-4 deliveries per day for each shop. This model helps our clients to reduce warehouse space in their retail space and receive replenishment of inventory quick enough to support their sales, all while reaching the carbon dioxide reduction target.

Starting in October 2019, JAS China started the second wave of the green energy vehicle store delivery service. JAS picks up cargo from the client at the PEK airport area and then extended the delivery from just Beijing to the client’s additional shops in Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, Langfang, and Tangshan.

Thanks to the fast development of electric vehicle technology, JAS China is helping our clients switch delivery service to a green model in order to protect our environment not only in North China, but also in the whole country.

JAS Thailand Puts Emphasis on Automotive

By
Franck Portet
August 20, 2019

As of 2017, the Thailand automotive industry was the largest in Southeast Asia and the 12th largest in the world. The Thailand industry has an annual output of near two million vehicles (passenger cars and pickup trucks), more than countries such as Belgium, the United Kingdom, Italy, Czech Republic, and Turkey.

Most of the vehicles built in Thailand are developed and licensed by foreign producers, mainly Japanese, American, and Chinese but with several other brands as well for CKD production, notably BMW and Mercedes. The Thai car industry takes advantage of the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) to find a market for many of its products. Thailand is one of the world's biggest markets for pickup trucks with over 50 percent market share for one-ton trucks.

Within this favorable context, our VP Automotive Vertical, Jim Ryan and our Global Account Director – Automotive Vertical APAC, Shane Ravel joined the first Automotive Sales Campaign in Thailand in March 2019, where they met with first/second tier suppliers such as LEAR, BorgWarner, Faurecia, CNH, IHI Turbo, American Axle, Continental, etc. The initiative has been managed and coordinated by Franck Portet (NSM for JAS TH) and his team members Mr. Kiattikhun Vunthong and Ms. Anong Chaliawsin.

In order to mirror the vertical global initiative, JAS Thailand has assigned Kiattikhun Vunthong as National Account Manager – Automotive Vertical, who will be focusing on the development of automotive accounts in the “Detroit of the East” (Rayong area). JAS Thailand has already had a very productive year with Jim, Shane and the JAS TH team and are looking forward to having Shane in Thailand again to explore the huge potential available.

With Kiattikhun’s experience and the sales effort of our BDM – Anong Chaliawsin, from our Laem Chabang office, we are adding additional focus on the Automotive vertical.

With the expertise of the JAS TH team and the support from the global JAS Automotive industry, JAS Thailands looks forward to expanding and enabling their customers to have the best support available!

When JAS sought to gain partnership with VESTAS the competition was fierce, but during a presentation given by JAS APAC management, and specifically the JAS Korea Team, in February of 2019 Vestas decided to put their confidence in JAS. Knowing that JAS always puts customers first, and the flexibility of our JAS Korea owned facility and management capabilities were strong influencers in VESTAS final decision to choose JAS.

JAS is now responsible for the housing of all VESTAS Korea's products and handling 3,000 sku's and circa 1,000 cbm at the JAS Korea warehouse per month.

JAS is proud to be chosen by VESTAS to be their supply chain solutions partner and looks forward to ensuring a long and mutually beneficial relationship together.

JAS is internationally recognized by our customers as a leader in customer service. The current pandemic has caused shipping disruptions across the globe.

With a 70% reduction in passenger flights since February 2020, the overall global air freight capacity is down about 25% from this time last year.  Limited space on limited flights means frequent delays and interruptions of supply chains globally.

With the unpredictable availability of cargo space, how do we regain control of air freight to ensure service in such a critical time?

The traditional air freight model is no longer a realistic option, instead Flight Operations are the key for maintaining a reliable and uninterrupted supply chain by providing door-to-door control of the shipping process. With a Flight Operation, every step of the process - from the time the cargo is picked up to its final delivery - is meticulously managed by the service provider.

Shipments are processed through facilities controlled by the service provider, both at origin and destination. This system avoids the typical congestion at airport hubs, reduces overall transit time, and increases control.

The aircraft themselves offer unmatched flexibility to meet all cargo needs. Freighters have the capability to move normal and specialized cargo such as dangerous goods, oversized pieces, and shipments requiring refrigeration such as perishable and pharma.

Lastly, a prime network of delivery options carries the cargo to its ultimate destination.

In early August JAS introduced BLUE WORLD ATLANTIC, a weekend roundtrip Flight Operation between Chicago and Frankfurt, utilizing B 747 – 400 F Nose-Load for optimum loading capabilities. The BLUE WORLD ATLANTIC prime schedule is the best solution for supporting customers in the transatlantic air freight corridor!

If your business could benefit from a regular flight operation in the transatlantic corridor contact a local JAS representative for more information.
