EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)
EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) impacts global supply chains

What is the EUDR?

The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) (Regulation EU 2023/1115) aims to ensure that products sold or exported in the EU do not contribute to deforestation or forest degradation. The regulation covers key commodities and selected derived products:

  • Wood
  • Coffee
  • Cocoa
  • Soy
  • Palm Oil
  • Rubber
  • Cattle
  • Certain derived products such as leather, chocolate, tires, and furniture

Companies placing these products on the EU market must demonstrate that they are:

  • Deforestation-free (not sourced from land deforested after 31 December 2020)
  • Legally produced according to the laws of the country of origin
  • Supported by a Due Diligence Statement or a simplified declaration

Compliance Timeline

  • Large and medium-sized companies: 30 December 2026
  • Micro and small enterprises: 30 June 2027

If your business imports, exports, manufactures, distributes, or sells products covered by the EUDR, you will need visibility into your supply chain and access to reliable documentation to demonstrate compliance.

Companies that are unable to demonstrate compliance may face restrictions on placing products on the EU market, financial penalties, and reputational risks.
