JAS Brazil was honored with the Viracopos Award for Logistics Excellence this November. The award aims to highlight the performance of and promote the growth of companies operating in the foreign trade sector through the Cargo Terminal at Viracopos Airport (ABV).

Organized for the tenth year by ABV in partnership with the Center of Industries of the State of São Campinas (CIESP), the ceremony is recognized throughout the region as one of Brazil’s most important events for foreign trade.

The event was attended by Dário Saadi, mayor of Campinas, Brazil. He shared the importance of logistics and foreign trade in the Campinas area while also highlighting the value of air transport in São Paulo.

Competing for the award were: 151 Importing Companies, 30 Cargo Agents, 41 Customs Dispatch Commissioners, 47 Road Transport Companies, and 11 Airlines, who were all evaluated on their performance from August 2021 to July 2022.

“JAS is excited to receive this award, and we are honored that our team has been recognized for their hard work and dedication.” said Andreas Oetje – Global Development Director LATAM of the award. “The recognition by both one of our key automotive clients and the VCP Airport is a ‘double’ honor! Having supported our customer to earn this award is the work of our local team and the teams around the world. I am proud to be part of this team! Our people really do make the difference,” he went on to explain.

Customer Advisory: Adverse Weather Impacts Southern Brazil

As widely reported by various media outlets, the southern region of Brazil is currently facing a significant weather-related crisis in Rio Grande do Sul, leading to dire circumstances in the state's most severely affected cities.

The impact of this weather event extends beyond individual homes, affecting critical infrastructure and logistics. Major disruptions have been observed in transportation networks, with 85 sections of 38 highways either wholly or partially blocked.

Current updates are as follows:

  • Band-Deicmar is scheduled to resume operations on May 14, 2024, for DTA shipments bound for Canoas/RS post-import.
  • Operations in Novo Hamburgo remain suspended until further notice.
  • The closure of Porto Alegre airport is due to flooding in the capital of Rio Grande Sul, with operations indefinitely halted.
  • Import cargo is being accepted in Rio Grande, and ongoing efforts are in place for export shipments of cargo that were delivered before road blockages occurred. However, new processes face challenges due to restricted access and road closures.

We are commited to closely monitoring developments and sharing relevant information with everyone affected.
