JAS Successfully Executes Air Freight Project Linking China, Great Britain & France

Recently, JAS successfully executed a large air freight project connecting China, the United Kingdom, and France. The project catered to a prominent French pharmaceutical company's highly anticipated product launch, highlighting JAS's ability to handle large shipments with precision and efficiency. The Toulouse Branch Manager of JAS France, Khalid Aabiza, played a key role in securing the business and overseeing the project's execution.

The French pharmaceutical company's product launch in the United Kingdom required the transportation of a vast number of paper containers/cups from China. With over 400 pallet cargoes divided into three lots, each carrying strict deadlines, the challenge was immense. The urgency to meet these deadlines and the need for high visibility and real-time updates on cargo status presented critical objectives for the customer.

The JAS team offered a full solution within just five days, leveraging optimal carrier combinations and strategic partnerships with multiple large airlines.

This seamless communication and coordination played a key role in the project's success.

The project culminated in the safe and timely delivery of over 500 pallets and 700+ CBM of cargo to London Heathrow Airport (LHR). JAS's execution and dedication earned appreciation from the customer, solidifying its position as a reliable partner for complex logistics operations.

With this success, JAS reaffirms its position as an industry leader capable of handling large-scale logistics with precision and timeliness. As the logistics landscape continues to evolve, JAS's commitment to customer satisfaction and operational excellence remains strong.

JAS truck carries humanitarian aid bound for Ukraine.
JAS Italy Sends Additional Aid to Ukraine

As the conflict in Ukraine enters into its second year, the humanitarian needs remain as many people struggle to find basic necessities such as food and medical care.

In response to these needs, JAS Worldwide and the Bruni Foundation "Charity Across Borders" have come forward to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Ukraine. JAS has helped provide humanitarian relief to those in the greatest need since the start of the conflict, sending its first shipment of relief items in March 2022 and a second in May 2022. With the help of individual contributions, the team has now sent its third shipment of humanitarian assistance to Odesa, Ukraine.

The latest shipment contains essential items such as food, medical supplies, and other necessities that can help those in need. The aid will arrive just in time for the Orthodox Easter, a holiday that holds significant importance for many Ukrainian families.

The compassionate response of our team members over the past year reflects the company's commitment to the global community and the fact that at JAS, people really do make the difference.

Ewa Osowska, Sales Manger, JAS Poland
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: AN INTERVIEW WITH EWA OSOWSKA

Throughout March, in honor of International Women's Day (March 8), we are celebrating some of the remarkable women at JAS. Today, we are honored to highlight Ewa Osowska, Sales Manger, JAS Poland.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Don't change anything. Be stubborn, be ambitious, and be committed. Lessons from failures can be a key to success in the future. Continue keeping your promises because trust builds business relationships that matter.

From the very beginning, I have treated work as a long-term journey. I like to learn and set ambitious goals for myself. I also like being open-minded and innovative.

When I started in November 2003 as an Airfreight Forwarder Assistant, I didn't know I would stay in the industry for the next 20 years. However, I am very happy with this choice right now. Over the years, I have had a chance to delve into the ins and outs of air freight, as well as ocean, road, and rail freight, and even contract logistics.

What achievement are you most proud of while working at JAS?

In February 2022, the eyes of the world were watching the dramatic scenes of the Russian attack on Ukraine. Poland, as a country with a direct border to Ukraine, has naturally become one of the major countries on the logistics map for building alternative supply chains for food, medications, medical kits, and all the other important equipment.

Thanks to JAS' global experience in Aid & Relief solutions, the United Nations has asked JAS to help support humanitarian efforts in Poland, a region where JAS recently expanded. Together with my colleague Salvatore Lauro, VP Regional Manager Center and South for Italy, we quickly created dedicated solutions so aid could be delivered despite the challenging situation. As a result, we were able to make food deliveries from the very beginning. I am proud of being part of it because it matters not only to me, not only to the company but to the Ukrainian people.

How do you #Embrace Equality?

It is a good question because, at JAS, people make the difference, regardless of gender, skin colour, or origin. I have not even thought about embracing equality, because it is already what I naturally do every day.

JAS France Visits EuroFos terminal

Recently, JAS France organized a visit of the Fos port in Marseille with some customers. More than 30 people were welcomed on site by the JAS France sales team to learn more about the port setup and operations.

Fos port is France’s main port on the Mediterranean sea, gateway to the southern part of France. It currently handles 1.5 million TEU yearly while its capacity was recently increased to 3 million TEU, anticipating a fast growth in the coming years.

Being able to actually experience the activity of the port provides a better understanding of the current shipping environment. The fast-paced environment continues 24/7 as workers strive to meet the many demands. Despite the pressure the top priorities remain meeting schedules while observing safety guidelines both at dock and at sea.

As the team watched the vessel mooring, the dock became an anthill of activity with a dozen of straddles carrying containers back and forth. It was impressive to see all the effort and coordination required to help the goods reach their final destination on time.

JAS France would like to thank The Port of Marseille Fos and Port Synergy – EuroFos for arranging this visit! Many thanks as well to our esteemed customers who joined us for this day together!

JAS’s LCL direct consolidated container services help customers keep their supply chains moving even when they are tight on time or do not have enough cargo to fill a full-container-load.

JAS now has access to additional green transportation solutions throughout Europe which are all managed by one team, helping customers to create an even smarter supply chain.
Providing Transportation Solutions Throughout Europe

JAS now has access to additional transportation solutions throughout Europe, including:

  • Short Sea Shipping Services
  • Intermodal Shipping Services
  • Sustainable Road Transportation Services

With one team managing all transportation solutions in Europe, customers have access to a single point of contact that can manage your flow of goods regardless of transportation method. This opens up a range of alternatives on the same trade lane and allows for tailor-made solutions that best fit your needs.

For instance, for those with sustainability as a top priority, your single point of contact might suggest a shortsea or intermodal solution as a default method of transportation while still having the option of road transport if needed.

Perhaps, you have heavy cargo to be transported over long distances. In this case, a shortsea solution might be the most cost-effective and sustainable alternative. However, road transportation is likely the most flexible alternative if time is critical and planning is complex.

Whatever your needs, our team members are equipped to help customers create an even smarter supply chain.

For more information about how you can reduce your environmental impact by making more sustainable transportation choices, reach out to your local sales representative today.

Lizelle Britz, Product Owner, JAS South Africa
International Women’s Day: An Interview with Lizelle Britz

Throughout March, in honor of International Women's Day (March 8), we are celebrating some of the remarkable women at JAS. Today, we caught up with Lizelle Britz, Product Owner at JAS South Africa. Read how she breaks the bias and what this day means to her.

What does International Women's Day and its theme this year, #BreakTheBias, mean to you?

International Women's Day is all about challenging the norm and should be done not just on International Women's Day, but every day. People say we are in control of our future and if you work hard, you will be rewarded, but women don't always get the same opportunities as men. Often we are misjudged as being emotional while we are passionate. We often accept our "fate" that we will eventually hit the glass ceiling and be content with this. By breaking the bias, we spread the message to all the young ladies wanting to have a career in the IT industry you can be just as successful as anyone else.

How do you #BreakTheBias?

I refuse to give up and accept that "this is how things are." I am extremely independent, and this is how I am raising my two daughters as well. I had a few conversations with my oldest, who is ten years old, where she would comment, "Isn't that something dad needs to do?" I would ask her why and challenge her not to go with the status quo and be resilient.

What advice do you have for other women entering the industry?

Don't accept that your career means less than anyone else's or think you are not good enough or don't have the knowledge to succeed. Don't be afraid to speak up if you feel that something can be done differently. It’s super important to find that work-life balance as family, at the end of the day, is what matters most.

How have female mentors/role models influenced your career?

I've had one female mentor, and she is such a great role model. She has shown that it doesn't matter what gender you are. What matters is what you want to achieve in life. She set her goals, worked hard, and she achieved them.

Why is women's mentorship in the workplace important?

Up and coming women in their careers can sometimes feel lost and not sure what direction they would like to go. There is a very well-known saying, "Do what you love, and you won't work a day in your life." Guiding anyone into a career that they love is so rewarding.

Biagio Bruni Speaks at AGORA 2021 Conference

The rapidly evolving pandemic, combined with the continued poor performance of carriers aggravated by growing demand for goods, has highlighted how fragile supply chains are due to globalization and delocalization. In fact, it has brought to the fore the phenomena of Reshoring/Nearshoring. This has accelerated the development of E-Commerce in Italy and has increased the importance of the "Made in Italy"  brand and the positioning of Italy within the global supply chain. (Source: Alsea Report in collaboration with Osservatorio Export Digitale del Politecnico di Milano).

JAS is always looking ahead to prepare for market changes and ways to serve our customers better. As a part of these efforts, JAS recently completed the acquisition of Tigers. With its long-standing expertise in both the Contract Logistics and E-Commerce sectors combined with its sophisticated IT systems, JAS will be able to provide logistical support and communicate digitally with our customers. In addition, these new systems will allow JAS to collaborate with customers to coordinate transit times and transport modes which will help customers' reduce CO2 emissions and the overall environmental impact.

With this objective, JAS has increased its usage of FCL rail service between China and Italy, transporting individual units or organizing block trains reserved entirely for JAS. Eco-sustainable, with low environmental impact, the service offers a competitive transit time when compared with current maritime services. Furthermore, as a part of the efforts to help customers reduce their CO2 emissions, JAS has increased the use of FCL rail services on the CHINA-ITALY section, transporting individual units or coordinating block trains entirely reserved for JAS. Eco-sustainable, with low environmental impact, the service currently offers a competitive transit time compared to current maritime services.

In further news, to better serve our customer's needs in this rapidly changing environment, on July 14, 2021, JAS Italy completed the acquisition of the company Bossi & C. Transiti S.p.A.. Specializing in the maritime field and headquartered in Genoa, branches will operate out of Verona and Vercelli while maintaining a commercial/operational office in Hong Kong.

Brand «Made in Italy», posizionando l’Italia «nelle catene globali del valore».

People Making a Difference: Christian Jensen

JAS is always excited to welcome new team members and strives to help them grow and succeed from day one. This is exactly what happened for Christian Jensen when he joined JAS Germany as a Business Development Manager in 2016. In his role, he took advantage of the resources and support found from both local colleagues and the global JAS network. By late 2017 he was effectively managing large accounts and developing worldwide contacts as he worked to help clients meet their goals while providing them with the highest level of service.

Christian’s success continued as he became a Trade Lane Manager for Southeast Asia. In only three and a half years, his enthusiasm and commitment, combined with support from the JAS team, led to another promotion. As the new National Account Manager/Director he found continued success growing JAS’ presence on the Southeast Asia trade lane.

Recently Christian was presented with the opportunity to join the Asia Pacific team (APAC) as a Global Account Director. He knew this position would allow him to work with some of the most talented and dedicated people in the industry, increase his day-to-day responsibilities and provide continued opportunities for personal development.  With these opportunities in mind, he eagerly accepted the position and moved to Malaysia where he continues to provide the personalized service JAS is known for.

The past five years have moved quickly as he went from a local office to Global Account Director. Looking back, he gives credit to JAS and the people who helped him along the way. “We know JAS is known to our clients as a place where people make the difference, but it holds true within JAS as well. The people here really do make the difference and that kind of environment encourages success for team members and clients alike.”

JAS can give you the opportunity and support to learn and grow. If you are ready to make a difference like Christian, JAS is the place for you.

JAS Supports the Medical Industry

On March 31st the HARTMANN GROUP began utilizing JAS’ charted flight operations to facilitate the supply of masks throughout Europe. Based in Heidenheim, Germany, HARTMANN is a leading provider of medical and hygiene products, with its core expertise being in wound treatment, infection prevention, surgical supplies, and personal healthcare.

HARTMANN turned to JAS to help it supply critically needed N95 masks to the governments of Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands.  These shipments are flown by JAS from Shanghai to Frankfurt for distribution to not only government entities, but also to pharmacies for wider distribution to non-governmental organizations and the public at large.

JAS continues to leverage its expertise in chartered flight operations, export and import clearance, and general distribution services for HARTMANN as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to put pressure on supply chains throughout the globe. JAS is committed to supporting efforts of customers like HARTMANN as they work to provide medical supplies when and where they are needed most.

When asked to comment on PPE supply chain challenges, Thomas-Garry Stiller, Senior VP of Procurement at HARTMANN remarked, “Sourcing those masks is one thing, but how to get them to Europe? Answer: JAS.”

JAS offers ongoing chartered flight operations between Shanghai and the cities of Frankfurt, Milan, and Chicago. In support of these air corridors, JAS also maintains distribution networks via its locations in the United States, Latin America, and Europe.
