France is changing fast. With the newly elected young French president, Emmanuel Macron, who is reforming economic sectors, the French Industry is back on a positive momentum, full of dynamic entrepreneurs. One of France’s economical specialties is that it is the the home of global groups like LVMH, L’Oreal, Saint Gobain, Airbus, Renault, Danone, Schneider, all with huge export volumes. As well as on the import side, with huge retailers like Carrefour, Auchan, and Decathlon, among many others!
In terms of the freight forwarding market, France is also very dynamic and still holds as the 7th largest economy in the World. Transport volumes are increasing with great import and export, air, sea, and rail volumes. The main port for containers is Le Havre to the North of the country, but France is also reachable via the port of Antwerp in Belgium. In the South, the port of FOS/Marseille is renowned as an entry door into Europe from the Mediterranean Sea. For airfreight transport, the national platform and most important airport is located north of Paris, the Roissy-CDG airport. Another fast-growing airport is Lyon, heart of a strong industrial economy, with major international airlines, like Emirates, operating directly.
In the midst of this strong economy trend, JAS FRANCE is ready to serve you! JAS is amongst the Top 15 IATA forwarding agents in France, with 5 fully-operational offices in Paris, Lyon, Nantes, and Nice. JAS France is proud to count with a growing professional staff of 74 dedicated employees: People make the difference!
JAS France has the privilege, and unique selling point, to have its own warehouse in Paris-CDG. A state-of-the-art cross-dock warehouse of 5.000 square meters. Only a very few freight forwarders can offer this benefit on the Paris airport surroundings.
With the enthusiastic vision to develop our expertise and capabilities in the perishable business (pharma & food sector), the JAS France Managing director, Mr Laurent Gohet, recently invested in a superb cold room to attend our client’s needs.
JAS France also offers a very important customs advantage. JAS France, due to its location right outside of the airport, depends on the Marne La Vallée French Customs Department, which JAS France has worked with for more than 10 years, and built trust, understanding of our processes, and therefore are given a diligent clearing process to the full advantage of our esteemed customers.
With the desire to continue our development and strength, JAS France has the pleasure to introduce its new National Sales Director, Laurent Richard, whom joined the company in June 2017. Laurent is delighted to be part of the French team and very optimistic for the company’s growth. His market experience and sales drive will be great assets to the dynamic French market.
JAS France also recently hired a team of experienced professionals to strengthen its Sales and Operations Departments, new experts to give one of the best customer experiences in the industry. This is especially true with the complete logistics visibility that JAS offers to its clients thanks to our best-in-class operational platform, fully integrated globally, which brings “live” and highly accurate transport milestones, in addition to automated key performance indicators.
Finally, to be even more efficient in attending to our clients' needs, JAS France also structured a new French Tender & Pricing Management Team, in order to promptly answer our Customers and the JAS Network. This Team will be led by Mrs Charline Pepin, and JAS France's main objective is to answer all of your requests with the best reactivity and accuracy possible, in order to develop our business with customers, and with our partners around the world.
Vive la France! And long life to JAS France, which is ready to support your business around the world!

The sales and management team of JAS ZA has officially accepted the monumental challenge of achieving a growth target nearly 4 times that which was achieved in the fiscal year 2017. Some may say that this kind of growth is not possible, but the team in South Africa would beg to differ!
THE CURRENT ENVIRONMENT IN SOUTH AFRICA
With the political situation in South Africa seeming to begin to settle down, business confidence and international investment in the country are on the rise. If the newly elected president of the main political party is able to continue his drive towards a non-corrupt local government and manages to turn around certain dysfunctional state owned enterprises, the country will move even further forward.
A stronger local currency, trading at levels last seen over three years ago to the US Dollar, will assist to drive the increase of imported products to the country's shores. The world’s third largest investment bank Goldman Sachs said that South Africa is “The emerging market story for 2018”, this being a good indicator that the country is now finding the right track, also predicting interest rate cuts in 2018. The one downside of a stronger local currency will be the pressure it puts on the export market.
SO WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN FOR JAS ZA?
JAS ZA has done an immense amount of groundwork in 2017, putting in place measures to ensure they achieve their objectives in 2018. Critical to the success of the team in achieving their goal is to find the right balance between import and export volumes, as well as to look at new industry verticals.
Taking advantage of the favourable import conditions to South Africa will also be key to their success at achieving the growth targets. The team has been talking with a number of blue chip organisations, and many of the opportunities they have been collaborating on will start coming to fruition in the first quarter of 2018.
In terms of a new and improved service offerings, JAS South Africa is looking to further expand in some areas of their business. Investigating the viability of a trade finance solution as an additional advantage for new & existing clients, to be better than what any other forwarder has implemented so far. This solution is quite unique to the South African market due to local customs clearing practices, as well as clients wanting one company to handle their entire foreign trade activity, from purchase of goods to Forex management all tied in to the logistics of moving their cargo from factory to final consumer. JAS South Africa will be a leader in offering a full scope of services to our Customers.
Another focus area is going to be the general African market. JAS South Africa would like to develop this very important and emerging market with the vision to become the “Control Tower” for all trade into and out of Africa. The opportunities in these markets are bountiful, with many African countries still experiencing double digit growth figures annually.

Dubai, the city that is on the world’s radar!
Just mention the D word and see the light in people’s eyes. This is the result of many years of planning, sweat, hard work and a vision like no other.
When oil was discovered in 1966, Sheikh Rashid utilized the oil revenues to spur infrastructure development in Dubai. Schools, hospitals, roads, a modern telecommunications network … the pace of development was frenetic. A new port and terminal building were built at the Dubai International Airport. A runway extension that could accommodate any type of aircraft was implemented. The largest man-made harbor in the world was constructed at Jebel Ali, and a free zone was created around the port.
Dubai's formula for development was becoming evident to everyone – visionary leadership, high-quality infrastructure, an expatriate-friendly environment, zero tax on personal and corporate income and low import duties. The result was that Dubai quickly became a business and tourism hub for a region that stretches from Egypt to the Indian sub-continent and from South Africa to what are now called the CIS countries.
Since the 1960s, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, then ruler of Abu Dhabi, and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum had dreamed of creating a federation of the Emirates in the region. Their dreams were realized in 1971 when Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah and (in 1972) Ras Al Khaimah, joined to create the United Arab Emirates.
Under the late Sheikh Zayed, the first President of UAE, the UAE has developed into one of the richest countries in the world with a per capita GDP in excess of US$17,000 per annum.
In the 1980s and early 1990s, Dubai took a strategic decision to emerge as a major international-quality tourism destination. Investments in tourism infrastructure have paid off handsomely over the years.
Dubai is now a city that boasts unmatchable hotels, remarkable architecture and world-class entertainment and sporting events. The beautiful Burj Al Arab hotel presiding over the coastline of Jumeirah beach is the world's only hotel with a seven star rating. The Emirates Towers are one of the many structures that remind us of the commercial confidence in a city that expands at a remarkable rate. Standing 350 meters high, the office tower is the tallest building in the Middle East and Europe.
Dubai also hosts major international sporting events. The Dubai Desert Classic is a major stop on the Professional Golf Association tour. The Dubai Open, an ATP tennis tournament, and the Dubai World Cup, the world's richest horse race, draw thousands every year.
JAS saw the potential of this city and that is why JAS UAE opened its doors in 2000. Since then, JAS has been a major player in the forwarding industry and managed to position itself amongst the top importers to the region. Handling a wide range of cargo variety, from Garments, Automotive to construction Materials and Oil & Gas.

Together with Gosselin Logistics, and Ahlers, JAS Forwarding Belgium NV receives recognition for actively reducing its impact on the environment.
Antwerp - Belgium - December 15th, 2017
JAS Belgium is pleased to announce that it is one of the first of three forwarders in Belgium to receive the Lean & Green Award presented by the VIL (Flemish Institute for Logistics) and the VEA (Union for Forwarders in Antwerp). The award recognizes companies who commit to reducing their CO2 emissions with at least 20% over a period of five years. As a service provider, JAS does not having any transport means of its own making this goal challenging!
JAS Worldwide - Belgium needed to compose an extensive Plan of Approach, measuring current CO2-emissions and presenting present and future efforts to reach the 20% goal. By linking every aspect of that plan to a key performance indicator, the JAS team would also be capable of measuring the impact of every part of the plan. The Plan of Approach was checked and verified by the University of Brussels, acting as a neutral evaluating party. As of December 2017 JAS - Belgium received the Lean & Green Award, recognizing efforts on reducing the carbon footprint.
As a freight forwarder JAS controls a number of of supply chains, so it does have the power to create a modal shift. Together with our customers JAS analyzes their current streams and pro-actively looks for potential improvements within their supply network. JAS not only raises awareness and highlights the importance of sustainability within the JAS organization, but also amongst its customers and suppliers.
Sam Jespers, Implementation Manager at JAS Forwarding Belgium, is convinced of the necessity of initiatives such as Lean & Green, “Sustainability is a topic high on the agenda of the majority of our customers. By participating in the Lean & Green program we concretize our efforts. Our Plan of Approach isn’t an informal statement but a true effective action plan! I’m glad we’re in this together with Gosselin and Ahlers. Together, we can achieve more.”

On August 24, 2017 the Cargo Human Care project, a humanitarian and medical aid charity run initiated by the employees of Lufthansa Cargo took place in Frankfurt-Niederrad for the third time. Several individuals from the JAS Germany Frankfurt branch participated including Juergen Erdt (MD), Murat Alkilic (Head of Finance & Controlling), Julien Pelesic (Director Airfreight Germany) and Manuel Kiessling (Branch Manager of FRA) as well as others.
The Lufthansa Sports Club, Cargo Bulls division, in cooperation with the location-initiative ‘Neues Niederrad’ invited several companies in the transportation and office business segments to the 3rd office city run in Frankfurt-Niederrad. The event was titled, Step by step ... giving children a future - The Cargo Human Care Office City Run.
The event was intended as an evening run for all running enthusiasts in the Rhine-Main area, and especially for the employees in the office city of Niederrad and the nearby Frankfurt airport.
The route included two beautiful, largely flat stretches (5km and 10km) along the office part of the city and through the city's forest with its beautiful trees. The mood in the evening was great and at the finish line all participants had a wonderful view of the Frankfurt skyline!
The proceeds of the event were given to the volunteer aid organization Cargo Human Care e.V., consisting of doctors and employees of the Lufthansa Group. The organization will finance the construction of the "Happy Child Education Center" for preschool children from a slum area in Kawangware on the northern outskirts of Nairobi. At present, about 45 children from the poorest conditions are taught in corrugated iron barracks; the new building should provide space for a total of 100 children.
After a couple of fantastic years, JAS Netherlands met with several challenges the second half of 2016 and has come through with flying colors. A couple of events happened more or less simultaneously on the staffing side. Losing both branch managers at almost the same time, was in the end the climax of these events.
Fortunately we have been able to find great replacements and I’m happy to introduce our new core team:
The team is excited about the improvements made and is completely ready to support all of you moving forward. So bring it on!
As informed in March by our CEO, Mr Marco Rebuffi, JAS Worldwide and GreenCarrier Freight Services (greencarrier.com) have formed a strategic alliance with the intent to expand trade and business between the Nordic and Baltic Sea region and the rest of the world.
Since then, a sales and operations meeting took place with JAS EMEA Management. Martin Spitzli – JAS EMEA VP of Air, and François-Xavier Mollet – JAS EMEA VP of Sales, both participated to Greencarrier’s Country Management meeting in Gothenburg to integrate our two companies. Martin Spitzli also participated in Riga (Latvia) to their Air Freight Management meeting.
On his side, Brahim Jarmache – JAS WW VP Agents, is working diligently to organize all the necessary set-up with each Greencarrier country offices in order to guarantee a smooth operations and netting integration.
Now, the focus is on our mutual development to make sure we have a full grip on the potential of our development. For this, one important milestone was the selection, by François-Xavier and Martin Svantesson – CCO of Greencarrier Freight Services, of Global & Multinational Accounts that JAS and Greencarrier will target and develop together. These companies are mainly local multinationals like Alfa Laval, Huqsvarna, SKF, Eletrolux, Ericsson, Tetra Pak, among others.

We spent the previous six years in a building about a mile away from our new location -- our old office served us well but we couldn't be more excited about our new space.
Our new office has been stripped and refurbished to a high standard to offer light and space, which adds to the well-being of our human capital.
The new office, on the fourth floor of one of Antwerp oldest harbor office buildings , is overlooking the dock activities of the port. Staring outside, we watch the docking and loading of the vessels and containers, it makes it a lively place to work in, in the middle of the action….
It has been an exciting six years for JAS Belgium, and we look at this new location as the start of another chapter in our history. We'll be hosting a happy hour soon for our vendors and customers, and if you're in the area, feel free to stop in and say hi!

Six months after the earthquake that destroyed the historic city of Amatrice, in the province of Rieti, JAS ITALY committed since the early hours as an emergency connection with the National Civil Protection for the logistical and transport assistance, also set off a commitment for civic solidarity for the people hit by the earthquake.
As an active part in the campaign "Together for Torrita di Amatrice", JAS ITALY donated a prefab structure to the Commander of the local police of Amatrice, Mr.Gianfranco Salvatore, whom suffered the loss of his life partner and the total destruction of his house.
The transfer of the prefab from the manufacturer's factory, in the province of Bergamo, up to Amatrice, took place on 24 February by Pepa Transport Society (a JAS partner for truck transport ).
Once the unload and installation of the building was completed, a representative of JAS ITALY, along with representatives of other associations participating in the campaign of solidarity, proudly handed the keys of prefab to the Commander Salerno, who greatly appreciated with immeasurable gratefulness and appreciations.

With an entire division, dedicated to Projects – Oil & Gas, we have proven experience with logistics services such as shore-base inventory management, local purchase and complete warehouse management. Our Israeli footprint works in conjunction with our Israel desk in New Jersey. Our NJ desk is dedicated to the U.S.- Israel trade lane with weekly consolidated shipments as well as the ability to prepare the necessary export documents which are an Israeli Authority requirement.
Completed projects since 2009 up to 2016 include industry specific such as Oil & Gas, Mining, Power and Infrastructure Projects that involved charter vessels and aircrafts, warehouse management and inland out of gauge transportation. Often times our industry specific clients require our knowledge of Ministry of Energy Licensing, Petroleum laws, require use of cranes and forklifts in addition to supply management. If implant employees are required for base management to real estate use of an office, yard and warehouse, we can oblige with our 24/7 English speaking staff.
Specialized services include working Saturdays and Holidays where a fleet of vans, trucks and various forklift types are available for use. With offices at both Ashdod and Haifa Ports, we can easily execute because of our proximity for same day delivery, after customs release.
Understanding the needs of our Projects – Oil & Gas and related clients is key. Reach out to either Michael Onorato or Carmen Perez with your Israel inquiry. We can help.
The JAS Projects - Oil & Gas (JAS PO&G) scope of work on this large project was to arrange pre-carriage from the FCA(Free Carrier) Supplier in Italy, arrange full charters to Port Antwerp, and then receive cargo under hook up to the final job site.
This project consisted of several large modules, a few of the largest ones were L31 m x W6.3m x H 6.7m and GWT 170 Metric Tons. To ensure smooth planning and execution of the project, JAS PO&G flew our Project Manager and Transportation Engineer in for pre-operations meeting and inspection of the freight. JAS PO&G Houston performed a detailed route study to determine the most feasible route, identifying civil work, route improvement, height barriers and permit requirements. JAS PO&G Houston pre-planned and did close coordination with Department of Transportation and utility/electrical companies to remove all the barriers and obstructions in order to expedite permits within a reasonable time frame to meet the project delivery deadline.
All oversized cargo was self-unloaded on stands at Port Chioggia, for safe handling of the cargo and to avoid the high costs of hiring a crane. The JAS client's requirement was to stow all cargo under deck, considering the dimensions and height of the cargo JAS PO&G Houston narrowed down their choice to 3 carriers who would have suitable ships to accommodate all of this freight under deck. JAS PO&G Houston obtained specifcations of the ship and prepared detailed stowage plans along with the lifting, securing and lashing drawings on the nominated vessel. Our team including the Transportation Engineer, Project Manager, and Surveyor were in attendance to supervise the loading, securing and lashing operation to ensure it met all safety standards both at the origin and discharge point in Antwerp.
