High Demand, Low Availability Challenges Linger in 2022
January 14, 2022

As 2022 begins, the global maritime market is continuing to experience high levels of demand while facing a reduced availability of space onboard ships, severe port congestion, and a shortage of empty containers. Today’s challenging shipping environment means that customers are turning to LCL services more than ever before to keep goods in their supply chains moving.

These challenges are nothing new to the global maritime market, which has been struggling with supply chain disruptions since the pandemic began. JAS is uniquely positioned to handle these and other ongoing marketplace stressors. Our Less-Than-Container-Load (LCL) services are designed to fill the need and keep goods in the supply chain moving.

Due to high customer demand and the current logistics environment, JAS is pleased to announce the launch of its new LCL strategic HUB connecting the LCL Asia Pacific cargos via Busan to the Latin American West Coast. The Busan HUB officially was announced on Dec. 20, 2021, with the first LCL console box to Manzanillo-Mexico. Thanks to high customer demand and the cost-savings benefits of implementing this LCL service, the team has begun the process of establishing a second weekly sailing from Busan to Manzanillo. Next steps include connecting Asia Pacific cargos via Busan to other Latin American countries, including Chile, Columbia, Panama, and Peru.

Advantages JAS’ LCL Import Services via Busan include:

  • Cargo availability at our own JAS container freight station (CFS).
  • In-house custom experts at origin and destination.
  • Dedicated customer service with LCL expertise.
  • Visibility into every step of product flow with JASTrack.
  • Exposure/risk reduction.
  • Door-to-door solutions available.
  • Weekly departures.
  • JAS controlled from end-to-end.
  • Easy In & Out connection. Cargoes are de-consolidated and consolidated in the same CFS managed by JAS.
  • Busan port is the last port connection from Asia to Latin America West Coast with the shortest transit time.
  • Reduction of CO2. JAS converts light 20-foot containers into LCL service using our strategic console product with containers of 40 feet well utilized.

March 10, 2021

JAS USA is pleased to announce the opening of its newest office in Cincinnati, Ohio.

JAS USA's new Cincinnati branch has a strategic connotation due to its geographic location at the center of the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana region. It is an ideal location for freight movement as it offers an extensive network of roads, airports, waterways, and rail. Interstate 75, which runs through Cincinnati, is one of the United States' busiest truck routes. Additionally, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) in Hebron is one of the busiest airports in the United States for total cargo operations. Of further importance, the nearby Ports of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky move close to 50 million tons of cargo each year. Each day, hundreds of trains come through the region's intermodal terminals and classification yards.

The city also presents new e-commerce opportunities with the recent completion of a massive Air Hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG).

As a part of this expansion, Tony Masternak joins as the JAS Cincinnati Branch Manager and Bryan Perdue joins as Regional Business Development Manager. JAS UK Prevents Line Stop in Production
March 8, 2021

JAS is dedicated to our customers, and often has the opportunity to help clients overcome challenges when immediate shipments are needed. On Monday, the 22nd of February, a large automotive customer requested that JAS UK move an urgent air freight shipment from China to the UK.

As of Monday afternoon, this shipment was in a free trade zone warehouse (FTZ) in Wuxi, China, awaiting outbound bonded clearance.  JAS Shanghai received the shipment at the airport warehouse at 2130 Monday. The flight left Tuesday with an ETA of 1600 at Heathrow Airport (LHR). JAS delivered the needed materials to the customer, located approximately 150 miles outside of Heathrow Airport (LHR), at 2330 on Tuesday.

The customer avoided a line stop in production due to the efficient delivery of the critical shipment and prevented the extra costs associated with line stoppage. Thank you, JAS UK, for your commitment to our customers! At JAS, our people really do make the difference!

JAS Projects is excited to start the new year with a successful delivery of 8,800 FRT incl. heavy lifts, up to 300 metric tons, to Singapore. On behalf of a valued customer, a customized transportation solution was developed by JAS Projects Germany in collaboration with the JAS Projects' teams in Singapore, Shanghai, and Seoul. Utilizing the vast JAS network and using the collaboration and expert teamwork that JAS is known for to make sure our customers are successful.

JAS  is proud to be the 1st logistics service provider operating via the newly built Chawan jetty in Jurong Port Singapore. JAS Projects was more than happy to meet and exceed those requirements. With shipping becoming more complicated everyday, having a team of experts on your side makes all the difference, and at JAS People Make the Difference.

JAS Saudi Arabia & JAS Netherlands Partner Together
February 15, 2021

JAS takes pride in always making the difference for our customers. Therefore, when an industrial partner contacted JAS with the need to make an urgent shipment of 9 tons of sensitive and critical cargo from the Netherlands to South Africa, the teams in Saudi Arabia and South Africa created a plan.

Since the cargo required special packaging to ensure that it was safely transported safely, the team in the Netherlands found a way to complete the packaging at shipper premises thanks to the collaboration between Shipper and Consignee on the process and documentation. At the same time, the team worked to book and confirm the arrangements with the airline.

Thanks to the teams' collaboration, JAS successfully packaged and moved the cargo to the customer's complete satisfaction. Congratulations, JAS Saudi Arabia and JAS Netherlands!

Andrea Azzimonti, Vice President Sales & Marketing, and Wing Chan, JAS Hong Kong Branch Manager & Director of Supply Chain of China including Hong Kong, represented JAS China and Hong Kong in the pig-cutting ceremony.

Chinese roast pig-cutting ceremony is one of the most iconic traditions in Chinese culture. As the tradition goes, if you are able to cut through the pig in one strike (remember, there are bones in the way), you will enjoy a smooth and prosperous year. Thus, the pig-cutting ceremony can be often seen at the beginning of the year, or at the opening ceremony of new companies, etc. in China.

Of course, the JAS Hong Kong team is not an exception in following this tradition. Thanks to the support and trust from customers, JAS has overcome the unprecedented challenges faced by last year and successfully reached our business goals in 2020! In order to send gratitude to and thank customers for such a good year of the Rat and to also welcome the year of the Ox, a Chinese thanks-giving ceremony was hosted at the JAS Tsing Yi Warehouse. Andrea Azzimonti, Vice President Sales & Marketing, and Wing Chan, JAS Hong Kong Branch Manager & Director of Supply Chain of China including Hong Kong, represented JAS China and Hong Kong in the pig-cutting ceremony. In the world of freight forwarding and logistics, speed and smooth delivery are one of the key goals to hit. Hence, the belief that the smooth one-strike of the cutting ceremony will bring smooth traffic in air, water, road, and so forth to the continued journey to success!

JAS takes this opportunity, to wish you a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous Year in the Year of the Ox!

JAS USA Puts the Spotlight on Miami
February 8, 2021
JAS Miami warehouse December 2020
JAS Miami warehouse December 2020

March 2020, Miami, and many of the surrounding counties in Florida (USA) faced new mandates and government regulations due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which posed a difficult challenge for JAS Miami. Like many JAS branches the work environment changed suddenly- as did the needs of customers. With some adjustments, endless enthusiasm and positive karma, JAS Miami was able to grow considerably in 2020, gaining more business through some major existing clients, as well as launching new projects and strengthening the JAS network into Latin America (LATAM). That network is important for JAS overall because JAS Miami is the main access point into LATAM and through this JAS USA Gateway almost 4.5 million kilos of cargo are moved from APAC (Asia Pacific) and Europe to LATAM and the Caribbean.

In October 2020, JAS announced additional weekly Flight Operations, Chicago – Atlanta & Miami. This new service is provided to further support customers in the Americas Region, which also includes mid-week departures to LATAM. JAS Miami operates diligently with JAS Chicago, as they are both official HUBS for JAS, receiving weekly trucks of consolidated freight destined for many LATAM locations. This process is rather complex and requires some of the finest positioning between all areas, requiring the customer service team to closely monitor freight through C1, where shipments are processed from origin. The warehouse team then receives, segregates, and repacks as needed in preparation for the destination country.

A long time JAS Miami customer approached JAS to handle the deployment & retrieval of all voting machines in Los Angeles County, this task was completed thanks to the support of JAS LAX; additionally, JAS Miami coordinated the logistics for two overseas elections in 2020. These projects were of great significance and importance for JAS USA, and JAS is proud to be a part of this process.

JAS Miami also coordinated the logistics of a major mobile phone launch for LATAM, supporting one of the largest distribution groups in the region. These are the same visionaries who made the Colon Free Zone a reality, the world’s second largest free trade zone.

JAS Miami’s dedication to our customers and capability to meet their growing needs, while operating meticulously to aggressively expand our network is remarkable and receives my utmost appreciation." Eugenio Fumo, CEO, JAS USA

The JAS Miami Branch has recently been activated as an FTZ (Foreign-Trade Zone, Inc.). This activation gives JAS Miami the opportunity to provide specialized services related to FTZ operations.  As an active FTZ, the JAS Miami facility has a section of floor space which is for legal purposes outside the customs territory of the United States, this allows JAS Miami to offer weekly entry services, duty deferral opportunities for import goods and duty eliminations for some export goods.  Weekly entry services may provide significant opportunities for clients to reduce costs and streamline their supply chain. FTZs offer the broadest flexibility for all bonded type facilities in the US.

During the last 3 years, under the guidance and leadership of Maria Emilia Davila (aka MED) JAS Miami continues to advance and evolve, often recognized, and valued by other JAS offices in LATAM as instrumental leaders they can rely on daily. JAS Miami’s collaboration and efforts within the region are exceptional, JAS envisions much success in 2021 from the Miami team!

Happy International Customs Day 2021 from JAS USA
January 26, 2021

Happy International Customs Day! We at JAS are thankful for our customs compliance team, and its adaptability as regulations have changed throughout the pandemic. Despite these constant changes and the new challenges that came with COVID-19, the implementation of USMCA, and the China 301 exclusions, the team has continued to stay up-to-date as they have navigated customers through the ever-changing regulations.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been an increased focus on importing and exporting items such as PPE, thermometers, and sanitizers. Our customs compliance team quickly gathered information about these items and it was able to help customers import large volumes of these goods under the updated FDA guidelines required under the Emergency Use Authorization. To better guide our clients through these changes, the team hosted a well-attended webinar focusing on these requirements.

Seeing the positive response to the previous webinar, a few months later, JAS hosted another popular webinar on USMCA which replaced NAFTA. This webinar provided training and discussed key points about the new requirements of USMCA.

Additionally, at least ten clients received individualized training on various topics from USMCA to how to classify their goods. JAS issued a record number of client advisories this past year to assure that our clients were up-to-date on the latest changes to the regulatory environment. To help clients avoid paying additional duties on imports to the USA, we advised them about the 301 China Exclusions.

We are thankful for our customs compliance team's efforts in making sure our clients have the latest information. Together we are making a difference!

Happy International Customs Day From JAS Italy
January 26, 2021

Happy International Customs Day from the JAS Italy team.  While 2020 was unprecedented in many ways, we are proud of our team and its ability to adapt as they navigated through many changes while maintaining high professionalism levels.

JAS has always worked closely with all of its customers to meet their specific needs and help navigate them through regulations, and this past year was no different. When the COVID-19 situation emerged, regulations were changing rapidly. One customer approached the JAS Italy team needing to import two large "modules for setting up field hospitals." As JAS guided the customer through the import process and reviewed all of the paperwork for the shipment, they realized that the goods had duties on them. The customer was unaware that these goods were duty-free under the "emergency duty-free operation" as they were going to be used to help fight the pandemic. Thanks to our customs operators and our team's expertise, the client declared the goods duty-free, thus saving them money.

In other COVID-19 efforts, the JAS Rome branch cleared more than 2,000 AWBS containing urgently needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) commodities that were used to help address the health crisis in Italy. Thanks to JAS Customs Partners and the supervision and support of the Italian Customs Agency, these goods were quickly cleared so they could be delivered wherever needed.

We are thankful for the JAS Italy team's efforts as they helped guide customers through the rapidly evolving regulations. We are passionate about giving our customers the best service available and we know that People Make the Difference!

Happy International Customs Day from JAS China
January 26, 2021

Happy International Customs Day from all of us at JAS Worldwide! As we recognize International Customs Day, we would like to thank our JAS China Logistics team for all that they have done this past year to help customers navigate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) regulations and become Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) authorized.

Since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, countries worldwide saw an increased demand for PPE. With China being the world's largest PPE manufacturer, many customers needed to know how to navigate PPE export regulations from China.

The JAS China Logistics team understood these concerns and helped customers navigate the regulations by preparing a PPE Export-related Operational Manual. This covered the detailed requirements related to suppliers' qualifications, certifications, packaging, and cargo description based on China's official regulations. These requirements changed day-by-day when the demand initially emerged in the market. Therefore, the JAS China Logistics Team closely monitored the latest changes and created a total of 8 versions of the Operational Manual for customers between March and May 2020. This ensured the latest updates were provided to customers so that they would have access to the most up-to-date information.

Throughout this time, JAS managed customs declaration documents for customers to ensure shipments reached their destinations on time. In addition, the JAS China Logistics Team provided a critical service for customers dealing with PPE export cargo by ensuring all documents were in order, as any mistake in customs declaration documents could result in delays of customs clearance, cargo space booking, and cargo departure. The JAS China Logistics Team consistently provided this important document-checking service before customs declaration, and this extra measure helped customers avoid any potential cargo delays.

The PPE export regulations provided a list of approved PPE suppliers, often called a 'white list.' Any suppliers outside the 'white list' cannot export PPE overseas. Based on our overseas customers' requirements, the JAS China Logistics Team went the extra mile by verifying the PPE supplier's qualifications, documents, and packaging to ensure all regulations were met and there were no delays in the export process.

While guiding customers through the complex PPE export requirements, the JAS China team became certified as an Authorized Economic Operator – AEO. The certificate covers all of Mainland China, and its accreditation reflects the high level of security and legality in our trade compliance. It is recognized globally as a mark of quality, strengthening JAS' capability to offer a full range of premium Value-Added Services to our clients in China.

This International Customs Day, we are thankful for all of the ways that the JAS China team has gone above and beyond in guiding our customers through the customs process. Our people truly do make the difference!
