JAS Mexico extended a warm welcome to Mr. Andrea Azzimonti, Sales Director for JAS China & Hong Kong, while visiting Mexico in February 2018. ​

China and Mexico have been strong partners for ages, especially during recent years with collaboration increasing, the business and the Trade-Lane volume has been growing substantially thanks to dedicated resources, excellent interactions, constant business trips, and most importantly because of a successful team of young and passionate sales people!

In 2018, JAS Projects Oil & Gas Australia and JAS Australia were awarded ongoing trusted trader status by the Australian Border Force (Customs). The Australian Trusted Trader logo is an internationally recognized mark of quality that signifies a business has met or exceeded international supply chain security and trade compliance standards.

The Australian Trusted Trader program (ATT) rewards accredited businesses with a growing range of trade facilitation benefits to improve international market access.

These benefits currently include:

  • A dedicated Account Manager - the single point of contact between your business and the Australian Border Force
  • Priority Trade Services when requesting duty drawbacks, refunds, and advanced rulings on tariff, valuation and origin though our National Trade Advice Centre
  • A lighter touch at the border when importing goods

Trusted Traders have access to differentiated examinations in countries where Australia has signed a Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA).

JAS EMEA Holds Annual Management Meeting

JAS EMEA organized its Annual Management Meeting in Paris, France in early March. The group included all EMEA Regional Management, each Country Management and Country Sales Management, in addition an invitation of our Worldwide CEO, Marco Rebuffi, and our Sales & Marketing EVP, Stefano Redditi, as well as our Strategic Development EVP, John O’Connor, and the new Air Freight VP of JAS APAC, Jens Grimpe.

The event was very successful  and celebrated the achievements and results JAS EMEA reached  in 2017. This meeting also helps our team to align and establish the strong development strategies for the Region in 2018.

JAS Hong Kong Provides Insight to COOP

Established in 1980, JAS Hong Kong is an expert in offering professional freight forwarding service for clients in various business fields. One of those fieldS is food and beverage, one of the verticals in which JAS excels among others in the industry. COOP is a system of Italian consumers' cooperatives which operates the largest supermarket chain in Italy. Buying products directly from associated companies – mainly for food,  and sourcing all household items/ accessories from the Far East to Italy (approximately 5,000/ TEUS per year). In November 2017, the Members of the Boards from COOP Italy decided to arrange a tour, visiting in China and Hong Kong to better understand the supply chain process and export logistics procedure. JAS Hong Kong was honored to be appointed by COOP Far East to arrange onsite port visits, as well as provide market insights on the Chinese freight forwarding business.

To allow our COOP visitors from Italy to have a real vision on our industry capabilities, an onsite visit to Hong Kong MTL terminal was arranged by JAS Hong Kong, which provided them with a detailed idea of how our local process works, e.g. vessel loading/unloading procedure, terminal workflow and timing. In addition, Mr. Gabriele Benedetti, CEO of JAS China and Hong Kong, was also invited by COOP to be one of the spokespersons in a conference co-organized by COOP and the  Italian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong on the 13th of November 2017. The audience was inspired by Mr. Benedetti’s professional overview on the current Chinese freight forwarding system, and also his insight on the future development of China, especially the One Belt One Road System.

Going forward, JAS Hong Kong and China will continue to strive to explore business opportunities in the food and beverage market, and are happy to answer any questions you may have!

JAS China Celebrates 20 Years

On January 31, 2017, JAS China celebrated its 20th anniversary. To celebrate this occasion, JAS Shanghai invited top loyal customers and supporters to the JAS Shanghai Anniversary Annual Dinner to honor their continuous development and dedication to JAS. In addition, Gabriele Benedetti, CEO of JAS China, also thanked guests for coming from all over the world, including the JAS Founder & Chairman, Biagio Bruni, JAS President & CEO, Marco Rebuffi, and several JAS colleagues from Italy, EMEA, Germany, the Americas, and APAC, to enjoy the joyful celebration.

The 20th Anniversary Dinner's theme “Just Always Super” resonates with our company name – JAS, and indicates that JAS China has always been, and will always continue its service to clients with superb quality. JAS China was pleased to celebrate its 20th year of success with special sand-painting shows during a gala dinner, which displayed the history and future of JAS China - the growth of JAS from Milan, Italy and including the transition to the JAS Atlanta Global Training Center, as well as expansion in China across several cities. At the same time, the shows displayed JAS looking forward to another fruitful 20 years with the united efforts of every one in JAS China.

Gabriele thanked all the employees for their diligence and endless support, which contributes to JAS China’s success today with more than 600 people across China.

JAS France is the Next Big Thing

France is changing fast. With the newly elected young French president, Emmanuel Macron, who is reforming economic sectors, the French Industry is back on a positive momentum, full of dynamic entrepreneurs. One of France’s economical specialties is that it is the the home of global groups like LVMH, L’Oreal, Saint Gobain, Airbus, Renault, Danone, Schneider, all with huge export volumes. As well as on the import side, with huge retailers like Carrefour, Auchan, and Decathlon, among many others!

JAS Hong Kong is Proud to be a Partner to Prada

The Italian heritage of JAS has equipped the JAS team with profound understanding on the unique nature of luxury fashion logistics, and JAS Hong Kong has successfully extended its services from GOH (Garment On Hanger), inventory control, pick & pack services, etc. to marketing showcase projects for luxury fashion brands.

Prada, one of the top Italian luxury fashion brands, sees JAS as the trustworthy partner, and JAS Hong Kong has carried out Prada’s itinerant marketing project, which involves both the freight forwarding and installation service of a Pop-up Showcase in several major Far Eastern countries, including Korea, Hong Kong, China and Singapore.

The Prada Pop-up Showcase project involves 53 cargo loads of total 230cbm, completely made in Italy. The showcase cargos were shipped by air to Hong Kong and then transferred to Macau for the first stage of the installation. The shipment, as soon as it arrived at Hong Kong International Airport, was transferred to JAS Hong Kong’s Ocean Freight Warehouse for loading onto containers and flat rack platforms, and then transferred to Macao.  

The main structure of the Prada Pop-up Showcase – a full-size railway wagon with window display and marketing areas – was handled by JAS Hong Kong with night deliveries to facilitate unloading and installation operation as per the installation plan provided by Prada. After the Macau showcase, JAS will continue the itinerary of Prada Pop-up Showcases in the Far East touching Korea, Hong Kong, China and Singapore until September 2018.

Dubai, the city that is on the world’s radar!

Just mention the D word and see the light in people’s eyes. This is the result of many years of planning, sweat, hard work and a vision like no other.

When oil was discovered in 1966, Sheikh Rashid utilized the oil revenues to spur infrastructure development in Dubai. Schools, hospitals, roads, a modern telecommunications network … the pace of development was frenetic. A new port and terminal building were built at the Dubai International Airport. A runway extension that could accommodate any type of aircraft was implemented. The largest man-made harbor in the world was constructed at Jebel Ali, and a free zone was created around the port.

Dubai's formula for development was becoming evident to everyone – visionary leadership, high-quality infrastructure, an expatriate-friendly environment, zero tax on personal and corporate income and low import duties. The result was that Dubai quickly became a business and tourism hub for a region that stretches from Egypt to the Indian sub-continent and from South Africa to what are now called the CIS countries.

Since the 1960s, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, then ruler of Abu Dhabi, and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum had dreamed of creating a federation of the Emirates in the region. Their dreams were realized in 1971 when Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah and (in 1972) Ras Al Khaimah, joined to create the United Arab Emirates.

Under the late Sheikh Zayed, the first President of UAE, the UAE has developed into one of the richest countries in the world with a per capita GDP in excess of US$17,000 per annum.

In the 1980s and early 1990s, Dubai took a strategic decision to emerge as a major international-quality tourism destination. Investments in tourism infrastructure have paid off handsomely over the years.

Dubai is now a city that boasts unmatchable hotels, remarkable architecture and world-class entertainment and sporting events. The beautiful Burj Al Arab hotel presiding over the coastline of Jumeirah beach is the world's only hotel with a seven star rating. The Emirates Towers are one of the many structures that remind us of the commercial confidence in a city that expands at a remarkable rate. Standing 350 meters high, the office tower is the tallest building in the Middle East and Europe.

Dubai also hosts major international sporting events. The Dubai Desert Classic is a major stop on the Professional Golf Association tour. The Dubai Open, an ATP tennis tournament, and the Dubai World Cup, the world's richest horse race, draw thousands every year.

The sales and management team of JAS ZA has officially accepted the monumental challenge of achieving a growth target nearly 4 times that which was achieved in the fiscal year 2017. Some may say that this kind of growth is not possible, but the team in South Africa would beg to differ!

THE CURRENT ENVIRONMENT IN SOUTH AFRICA

With the political situation in South Africa seeming to begin to settle down, business confidence and international investment in the country are on the rise. If the newly elected president of the main political party is able to continue his drive towards a non-corrupt local government and manages to turn around certain dysfunctional state owned enterprises, the country will move even further forward.

A stronger local currency, trading at levels last seen over three years ago to the US Dollar, will assist to drive the increase of imported products to the country's shores. The world’s third largest investment bank Goldman Sachs said that South Africa is “The emerging market story for 2018”, this being a good indicator that the country is now finding the right track, also predicting interest rate cuts in 2018. The one downside of a stronger local currency will be the pressure it puts on the export market.

SO WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN FOR JAS ZA?

JAS ZA has done an immense amount of groundwork in 2017, putting in place measures to ensure they achieve their objectives in 2018. Critical to the success of the team in achieving their goal is to find the right balance between import and export volumes, as well as to look at new industry verticals.

Taking advantage of the favourable import conditions to South Africa will also be key to their success at achieving the growth targets. The team has been talking with a number of blue chip organisations, and many of the opportunities they have been collaborating on will start coming to fruition in the first quarter of 2018.

In terms of a new and improved service offerings, JAS South Africa is looking to further expand in some areas of their business. Investigating the viability of a trade finance solution as an additional advantage for new & existing clients, to be better than what any other forwarder has implemented so far. This solution is quite unique to the South African market due to local customs clearing practices, as well as clients wanting one company to handle their entire foreign trade activity, from purchase of goods to Forex management all tied in to the logistics of moving their cargo from factory to final consumer. JAS South Africa will be a leader in offering a full scope of services to our Customers.

Another focus area is going to be the general African market. JAS South Africa would like to develop this very important and emerging market with the vision to become the “Control Tower” for all trade into and out of Africa. The opportunities in these markets are bountiful, with many African countries still experiencing double digit growth figures annually.

BIG WINS FOR JAS SOUTH AFRICA SO FAR...

HANON SYSTEMS

JAS ZA has secured the customs brokerage, warehousing and last mile distribution for Hanon Systems. JAS ZA controls the imports from Thailand & Korea and has worked closely with Hanon over the past couple of years to earn this business and build this relationship.

Our JAS Johannesburg warehouse now holds all inventory pertaining to the FORD RANGER PICK-UP from where we deliver directly into the HANON incubation centre at FORD for the production line. We are expecting around 400 to 500 Containers per annum throughput as well as an additional 250 Cubic meters of LCL cargo.

BEARING MAN GROUP

Anver Mayet, our JAS Johannesburg Business Development Manager, has secured a five year contract with the Bearing Man Group, which will mean JAS ZA will be handling all of their ocean freight forwarding business. The expected FCL volumes are around 1440 Containers per annum.

Through the consistent expansion of their operations since 1974, BMG have become Africa’s largest specialist distributor of engineering components, strategically positioned to service all sectors of industry including agriculture, mining, petrochemical, sugar, paper, general engineering as well as the automotive and domestic sectors.

The extensive range of products includes bearings, seals, power transmission components, drives, motors, materials handling, tools & fasteners, hydraulics, filtration, lubrication and field services.

JAS ZA looks forward to a mutually beneficial and long standing relationship with The Bearing Man Group.

ENPING TRADING

​James Roux, Key Account Manager in JAS Johannesburg, has bucked the import trend in South Africa, with the securing of an additional 2000 containers per annum of paper and paper related products which will be exported to the Far East, as well as European destinations. JAS ZA will be working hand in hand with Enpings’ suppliers to ensure that the operational aspects of this large export client are handled according to the clients exacting requirements.

A key market differentiation as a medium sized forwarder is our service. We have to ensure as a business that there is a lot of focus in this area, to offer a personalized service to our clients by going above and beyond their expectations.

JAS Hong Kong Wishes Clients a Happy New Year

In Chinese society, it is tradition for companies to show gratitude to their clients for their continuous support all year round before the Chinese New Year. In 2018, JAS Hong Kong organized its first customer luncheon that welcomed the top clients and JAS management team from all over the world to the Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui on February 2, 2018.

As a WAT Meeting was held in Hong Kong during the same week, Graeme Robinson, Executive Vice President of Operations, was invited to be the honorary speaker and provided air freight and ocean freight market updates to JAS Hong Kong VIP and top potential clients. The luncheon provided an opportunity for the clients to meet and greet the JAS Management team from WW, Americas, EMEA, APAC, USA, Italy, and Germany. It also enabled JAS Hong Kong to closely connect and interact with clients, and explore business opportunities.

The luncheon was successful and the audience was pleased to receive the latest market updates and learn about how JAS is positioning towards the market from Graeme.

100% Made in Italy : JAS Hong Kong Hosts JAS Italy

Since the establishment of JAS China and Hong Kong, Italy has always been one of the most important business partners for Hong Kong, which contributes almost 25 percent of business for China and Hong Kong. This is a strong indicator that both countries are deeply engaged in cultivating this important trade lane. JAS Italy and JAS Hong Kong decided it was important to meet in person and really get to know one another.

To welcome the visit of Mr. Franco Pinzani, General Manager Seafreight Division from JAS Italy, in late October 2017, the Italy trade lane team in JAS Hong Kong arranged top customer visits and a fabulous Italian dinner with Mr.Pinzani. This dinner meeting with Mr. Pinzani strengthened the JAS Hong Kong and JAS Italy network partnership and brought names to faces, and also proved that no matter where in the world a JAS Team member is, they are all "100% Made In Italy."

Mr. Pranzetti has a Bachelor’s Degree in International Commerce, together with a Master Degree in Business Administration, and postgraduate degrees in Marketing & Psychology and Logistics. Having solid experience in the field, JAS Argentina is confident he will be a great asset to our Americas region.

JAS India Handles the Move for Voith

VOITH IN (India) awarded JAS with the opportunity to handle their 2nd CAPEX import project of paper fabric machinery into completely knocked down (CKD) form. Shipping from their subsidiary VOITH U.S., in their North Carolina facility, to the VOITH IN, Faridabad plant.

The Technical & Engineering Team from VOITH IN visited the U.S. plant to supervise the dismantling of the plant & machinery and package it in a manner that could be stuffed into a 40HC shipper owed container (SOC), with the help of special MHE's (material handling equipment).

The objective was the ability to reassemble and erect the plant & machinery at the destination VOITH IN Faridabad plant in the shortest possible time and get the plant up and running in the shortest gestation period.

Trish & Jeff at JAS USA did an excellent job of hosting the VOITH IN overseas team and coordinating the visit and cargo inspections at VOITH NC US site, in addition to sharing their know-how and expertise on packaging to optimism the container stuffing.

Our JAS USA team also helped source and Buy SOC containers Lloyd certified, on behalf of  VOITH IN. This was followed by systematic & meticulous planning for stuffing, drayage, and on board the vessel with no additional costs incurred like over-time, chassis halting, storage or demurrage charges. It was a seamless operation and effortlessly done all during the Christmas holiday season. Way to go JAS USA.

As a testimony of the good service & customer experience VOITH IN experienced, they have placed repeat orders/inquiries for the second Lot, a total of three Lots, of the same plant & machinery.  There is approximately 800 tons to move partially containerized (SOC) & Break-Bulk.

JAS China and JAS Italy Explore JAS Australia

JAS strongly supports the development of Intra-Asia business, and Australia is one of the most important network partners for the Intra-Asia trade lane.

Mr. Gabriele Benedetti, CEO of JAS China, Mr. Andrea Azzimonti, Sales Director of JAS China and Mr. Franco Pinzani, General Manager Seafreight Division of JAS Italy made their way together to Sydney in late October 2017 to meet Mr. Nicholas Frate, Managing Director of JAS Australia and his friendly team to enjoy the beautiful country, as well as to visit top client supporters and potential clients for the trade lane development.

Following the strategic alliance between JAS and GreenCarrier Freight Services that commenced in June 2017, JAS China is proud to be a part of the network and to start developing this business partnership with GreenCarrier China.

The Chairman of GreenCarrier - Mr. Stefan Bjork, and newly appointed GreenCarrier China CEO - Mr. Tero Ahonen, were in Hong Kong together with Mr. Tomas Sonntag, Executive Vice President of the JAS APAC region, and also Mr. Gabriele Benedetti, CEO of JAS China, along with Mr. Andrea Azzimonti, Sales Director of JAS China (all pictured  left & above) in October 2017 to share their views together on the future opportunities this alliance brings.

​The JAS China and GreenCarrier China Management teams held a two-day workshop in December 2017 in Shanghai. This workshop worked to strengthen relationships and cooperation, ensuring a long lasting alliance.

JAS Colombia is Growing

We are pleased to announce that as of November 20, 2017, we have relocated our office in Miami, Florida, U.S.! Our new office is located at 1900 NW 129 AVE suite 100 Miami, FL 33182.

Centrally located, we are about 13 miles west from the Miami International Airport, 18 miles west from the port of Miami, and 39 miles south west from Port Everglades.

Our new building is 84,000 SQ FT with 35 FT height ceilings. The office space is around 10,000 SQ FT. We have 32 bay doors with 2 truck wells in the warehouse.

Congratulations to Mr. Jenson Pan on winning the 2017 Best Sales of Transcend award!

Transcend Information Inc. was founded in 1988 by Mr. Peter Shu, with its headquarters in Taipei, Taiwan and has been registered as a public company in the Taiwan Stock Exchange since 2001. Today, Transcend has become a leading global brand for digital storage, multimedia and industrial products with 14 offices worldwide.

JAS Taiwan has been offering airfreight & customs brokerage services to Transcend Information Inc.  for about 10 years. Since 2014,  JAS  has been receiving more and more air cargo service inquiries from Mr. Jenson Pan, Middle East Country Head for Transcend Information Inc., for his new client development in the Middle East.

Thanks to JAS' strong business network and abundant experience in this area, JAS has always provided various assistance to meet his business promotion needs, not only making sure shipments are on time deliveries, but also with economic rates, as well as providing market consultancy and potential customer referrals.

China is the world’s largest production and consumer markets, and JAS China is an important part for our JAS network for many reasons. Some of those reasons include exploring and creating multiple opportunities with clients, airline partners, and shipping lines in both China and Hong Kong.

JAS Belgium Receives Customer Appreciation Award

At the recent Intersolution fair in Ghent, Belgium held in January 2018, JAS Belgium received recognition from their customer, Vikram Solar, for their outstanding services provided to them. Vikram Solar is a globally recognized leading solar energy solutions provider, specializing in high efficiency PV module manufacturing and comprehensive EPC solutions. With international presence across 5 continents, they are an active contributor in shaping the solar revolution.

JAS Belgium manages Vikram Solar's European supply chain, covering warehousing, brokerage services and distribution within the region. JAS’ experience in handling solar panels of all kinds helps Vikram in their day to day supply chain, adding value and expertise towards their customers. JAS Belgium is delighted to have Vikram aboard.

JAS Participates in Relay Run for Charity

JAS Worldwide is proud to sponsor the efforts of 12 employees as they take on the 200-mile Reebok Ragnar Tennessee Relay Run, March 23-24, 2018.

This event goes on for 48 hours and consists of each team having a member run part of the distance, passing the baton to the next team member as they complete their section of the run. This run is different from others as it requires a team to be dedicated enough to work and train with one another to achieve their goals.

In addition to the time and dedication these JAS runners put into training for the run, they will also be working to raise money for the St. Jude Children Research Hospital through their run. The team goal is to raise at least $4,000 through donations.

This group of dedicated runners will be running as the “JAS Foreign Legionnaires." The group includes Stefano Redditi, Matthew Burgess, Peris Johnson, Scott Kimel, Khuyen Vo, Graeme Robinson, Scott Luchenbill, Sandra Manfredi, Dan Dunlavy, Alessio Profeti, Manuele Mazzacurati, and Fritz Belinga.

Stefano Redditi, EVP Sales & Marketing at JAS Worldwide, spoke about the challenge:

“I am looking forward to this new challenge. This is a complex event. Running 200 miles non-stop, day & night, requires a group of physically and mentally prepared people. The ‘logistics’ of the event is not a joke.  We will split our 12-person team into 3 person sub-teams. We will then use two vans to coordinate transport of the runners. One van will follow the current runner while carrying two additional team members, meanwhile the 2nd van will shuttle the next 3 runners from the base camp located about mid-course to the next point.

What is most important though, is that we are going to raise money for the St Jude Children Research Hospital. St. Jude is a childrens hospital that advances cures and means of prevention for catastrophic diseases that affect children. At St. Jude, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion, or a family’s ability to pay. We are proud to be running to help raise money for this hospital.”

Redditi added, "I would like to thank JAS Worldwide and in particular, our global CEO Marco Rebuffi, for supporting the JAS team!”

Week 1, 2018 Montevideo, Uruguay.

When an Expedition Cruise Vessel on route to the Antarctic was in urgent need of a critical spare part, JAS Uruguay was ready to take on the challenge. As per information received from their part supplier, the part would need to arrive in the Falkland Islands, Mount Pleasant Airport (MPN) on Wednesday January 10th in order to be received on time.

There is only one commercial airline operating to MPN once a week and it has a limitation of weight and height per piece transported because of the narrow bodied aircraft that is  used for the route. It was not possible to reduce the packaging size or to split the critically needed spare part into smaller packages for transport.

Therefore, JAS Uruguay chartered a small aircraft to ensure our customer that the transport was carried out as fast as possible, as well as meeting the required weight and height limitations for their cargo. After permits and  approvals were acquired and met, a direct flight was planned using a Lear Jet 35 aircraft.

The pilots removed a few seats to get the space needed for the cargo and used a small crane in order to charge and discharge the piece. After 2 hours and 40 minutes of flight from the origin, the piece arrived safely and on time at MPN Airport.

Orders with short notice are commonplace in this industry and cruise supply companies have to live with them. At JAS Uruguay, we have passion for finding solutions to these kind of problems and acting as a reliable partner for these companies.

JAS Worldwide - Belgium Gets Lean & Green Award

Together with Gosselin Logistics, and Ahlers, JAS Forwarding Belgium NV receives recognition for actively reducing its impact on the environment.

Antwerp - Belgium - December 15th, 2017

JAS Belgium is pleased to announce that it is one of the first of three forwarders in Belgium to receive the Lean & Green Award presented by the VIL (Flemish Institute for Logistics) and the VEA (Union for Forwarders in Antwerp). The award recognizes companies who commit to reducing their CO2 emissions with at least 20% over a period of five years. As a service provider, JAS does not having any transport means of its own making this goal challenging!

JAS Worldwide - Belgium needed to compose an extensive Plan of Approach, measuring current CO2-emissions and presenting present and future efforts to reach the 20% goal. By linking every aspect of that plan to a key performance indicator, the JAS team would also be capable of measuring the impact of every part of the plan. The Plan of Approach was checked and verified by the University of Brussels, acting as a neutral evaluating party. As of December 2017 JAS - Belgium  received the Lean & Green Award, recognizing efforts on reducing the carbon footprint.

As a freight forwarder JAS controls a number of of supply chains, so it does have the power to create a modal shift. Together with our customers JAS analyzes their current streams and pro-actively looks for potential improvements within their supply network. JAS not only raises awareness and highlights the importance of sustainability within the JAS organization, but also amongst its customers and suppliers.

Sam Jespers, Implementation Manager at JAS Forwarding Belgium, is convinced of the necessity of initiatives such as Lean & Green, “Sustainability is a topic high on the agenda of the majority of our customers. By participating in the Lean & Green program we concretize our efforts. Our Plan of Approach isn’t an informal statement but a true effective action plan! I’m glad we’re in this together with Gosselin and Ahlers. Together, we can achieve more.”
