An existing customer of JAS Forwarding, a tech-based Shanghainese firm, approached JAS to handle an out-of-the-norm business situation for one of their most important customers. The shipment commodity being a storage tank which would be filled with Nitrogen gas upon arriving at it's destination, the interior of which must be ensured to be clean and free of liquid and moisture when it arrived at the consignee destination.
Ray Zhao, Senior Sales Executive and his team took up this challenge and began by analyzing the special requirements and handling concerns of this project. After thoroughly understanding the situation, they decided to work with a JAS Projects Oil & GAS office who have similar expertise in handling such commodities and were then able to develop a customized solution for the transportation of the Nitrogen gas.
First, all the shipments are covered with tarp except for the pressure gauge which is on the surface the tank. Careful handling of the tanks is ensured so that no damage is inflicted on the tank which the consignee can identify via the indicator on the pressure gauge. In addition, both bulk cargo vessel and container vessel are offered to the customers so they have more options and flexiblity to meet their customer’s strict delivery date. With such a detailed proposal, JAS stood out from the other forwarders and won the trust and approval to handle the business.
With a good record track, the consignee who is a US-listed chemical corporation now recommends JAS to their vendors and JAS is now receiving new enquiries from them.
We believe professionalism and dedication to customers will continue to bring us new opportunities, and the success with this customer is just one of those cases.

Indonesia is a colorful country full of challenges. When it comes to shipping, import customs clearance is one of the biggest hurdles that companies can face. Navigating the many regulations and clearing your goods in a reasonable time is possible, but the correct expertise is needed. With the recent application of National Single Window (NSW) and the ability to connect to Indonesian Customs via the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) the import customs situation in Indonesia is improving.
PT JAS Worldwide Indonesia is a licensed customs brokerage firm with an in-house brokerage team committed to helping importers improve their standing with customs and move from the Red Lane to the Green Lane. Our highly efficient customs brokerage, clearance and compliance service is designed to take the complexity out of the customs process. JAS is proud of the partnerships made with agents around the world. Continuously expanding our network and gaining new insights into new markets with every new partnership is one of the many things that make JAS the company it is.
In Poland, JAS is proud to be partners with Omida Sea & Air / Omida Group, headquartered in Gdansk, Poland.
When asked about their relationship with JAS, Omida responded with the below:
"Thank you very much for the opportunity to be a part of the JAS Worldwide Team by Omida Sea & Air / Omida Group.
We welcomed the possibility of cooperating with a global corporation like JAS.
Your successful strategies and shared values make it head and shoulders above the randomly chosen competition. In the past, we needed to use unknown agents to assist us with moving cargo, with their service level unfamiliar to us. Having such a reliable partner like JAS, not only can we have access to the global JAS network and JAS countries and markets worldwide, but it [also] gives us a professional stability both in service and credit terms.
The netting system is a useful tool to assist in the handling [of] the cash flow among the group and that same tool lead us to partner with JAS. JAS has the financial stability and a sprawling network of global offices to assist us with our customers.
Furthermore, by partnering with JAS we can enter aggressively into new accounts and sell the JAS brand with its extensive knowledge of different commodities and act as a global company – especially now that we compete in a market overwhelmed by global corporations, the need for a strong partnership is of the utmost importance.
JAS also benefits from Omida, with it being the number one group in Poland in terms of dynamic growth in 2015 - (transport/forwarding/logistics profile)! Our consecutive development over the past years has allowed us to create one of the most recognized Polish forwarding brands, with over 300 employees in 10 branches across the country, as well as with around 50 of our own trucks and customs broker agency with AEO, FIATA, IATA accreditations.
In the last nine months, we nominated JAS to handle over 500 of our containers (around 640 TEU) and we are positive that the volume will keep on increasing year by year.
Each of these elements has contributed to JAS being an appealing partner for the long term in our business ventures!
We want to be part of your success!"
JAS is happy to be a partner to Omida and looks forward to working with them in the long term!
Surabaya, Indonesia’s second-largest city, is the main port in East Java, serving cities such as Sidoarjo, Gresik, Mojokerto, Pasuruan, Jombang, and Probolinggo. Surabaya serves a market of over 40,000,000 people and with an even split between imports and exports, Surabaya annually handles over 36 Million tons by ocean and 130,000 tons by air.
Provincial growth in 2015 is estimated at 5.7% with a major contribution from small and medium enterprises. East Java Province’s main export partners are Japan, USA, China and Western Europe with the largest commodities being furniture, petrochemicals, wood, footwear, industrial machine parts, and automotive parts. Major import partners include China, Singapore, Western Europe and USA with commodities such as steel, heavy machinery and plastic goods.
JAS Indonesia is pleased to announce our new fully operational office in Surabaya. JAS Surabaya is well-positioned in this market to offer a full range of freight forwarding services and become a key component to JAS’ growth in Indonesia. JAS Surabaya Branch Manager, Sanno Santosa, and his team are ready to serve the JAS network.
As Korea becomes one of the global market leaders, it is very important that JAS is well equipped with proper and quality resources to match and meet the demand of this fast paced market.
Starting with the National Sales Manager, we have appointed Mr. Yousuk Kim in August 2015 to head and lead the JAS Korea Sales team. Yousuk brings us more than 20 years of professional experience working with large international forwarding companies. With his leadership, the sales organization has been re-designed with the main objective on business development directed mainly towards Europe, Intra-Asia, and the USA.
To ensure we serve our customers to its full potential, it is essential to have dedicated resources in place for Key Account Management as well as our Trade-lanes development. With such resources, we are able to work proactively and further develop these areas that eventually bring benefits to our end customers with better service and pricing.
Together with the rest of the team, JAS Korea is specialized in all fields, providing professional logistics services globally as well as locally.
Korea is at the heart of Northeast Asia, one of the world’s top three economic regions and a global market leader in IT products, automobiles, chemicals, steel, and shipbuilding.
As of 2014, the Northeast Asian population of 1.5 billion accounted for 21% of the global population and generated 21% of global GDP. Located between China and Japan, the world’s second and third-largest economies, respectively, Korea is within a 3-hour flight of 147 cities with a population of more than 1 million. With a strong and diverse purchasing power of more than 50 million consumers, Korea is an ideal test bed for global markets and a laboratory in which to explore future markets.
JAS Korea was established in 1987 as a company specializing in freight forwarding and is the Korean branch of the JAS Forwarding Worldwide Network. At its initial establishment, JAS Korea dealt exclusively with air freights, which were made in and imported from Italy. They were mostly fashion items such as clothes, bags, and fabrics. Then, it extended its business field into the seaborne trade as well as airborne trade and began including USA and China. The products it handled have been expanded to automobile parts, machinery, and industrial materials. While Italy still covers the majority of the imports by air freight, the import volume from China by ocean freight has increased. The amount of USA imports and exports also increased because of the expansion of the JAS networks within the USA. The core of forwarding is traded volume. As Korea developed into the 8th largest import and export nation in 2014, JAS Korea has grown steadily based on its global logistics network. In the past, 70% of sales were from airborne trade only, but currently the volume of sales by air and ocean are very close in percentage.
JAS Korea built a logistics center in the Free Trade Zone of Incheon International Airport. The logistics center that was opened consists of two stories above ground as storage and four stories above ground as an office, totaling six stories. Its total ground area is 3,401 square meters (around 36,610 sq. ft.). Based on this, JAS Korea plans to strengthen its forwarding and 3PL complex logistics services. On the 1st floor of the logistics center at the Incheon International Airport, forwarding products are dealt with as a bonded warehouse and on the 2nd floor, 3PL products are stored. The 2nd floor was designed to be eight meters high with three level racks (mezzanine racks) to store as much inventory as possible.
Currently, the 3PL contract is complete with a sportswear enterprise handling various sportswear and accessories, and a famous fashion enterprise handling materials and parts for high fashion shops.
By using the complex logistics center, the customer can decrease transfer costs as well as time, because products which come from Incheon International Airport go through a clearance process on the first floor of the logistics center and are moved directly to the second floor for inventory storage.
Recently, business has been diversified with the provision of services such as 3PL (3rd Party Logistics), and BWT (the Bonded Warehouse Transaction). Previously, 3PL for JAS Korea began as a warehouse rented in Osan, South of Seoul in 2007, providing services exclusively for fashion brand enterprises in Italy. At that time, JAS Korea was focused on expanding its business, as competition in the forwarding market was intensifying. Customers asked for a one-stop distribution from customs clearance to distribution and therefore, it served as a winning situation for both JAS Korea and the customers to invest in this office and warehouse complex. Since JAS Korea provides a logistics service for the entire process of shipping from the country of origin to the consumers, it relates to a reduction in costs. Combined provisions of forwarding and 3PL prove to be very advantageous.
Competitiveness in service quality improvements is closely contested in the forwarding business. The strength of JAS Korea is in the education of its employees and the enhancement of their abilities to provide proper service for customers. JAS Korea provides specialized services for customers by reinforcing the business ability of its employees. By having employees with extensive knowledge of the forwarding business, JAS Korea can quickly and accurately cope with any request from customers. JAS Korea has an intensified education program for employees, as they actively send employees to outside education institutes and run various programs such as the regular invitation of guest lecturers. The information system which is adjusted to the specific characteristics of each customer is also a strong point of JAS Korea.
JAS Korea can now provide more information to our customers than ever before with the global roll out of Cargowise One, which is now able to deliver consistent information to our customers through the valuable tools available on our new platform. By doing this, JAS Korea can cope with whatever customers ask instantly and have a system with which customers can track and trace their shipments. Additionally, it makes it possible to improve productivity through the KPI index management.
Furthermore, JAS Korea has earned qualifications for the industry such as the IATA, the FIATA, the ISO9001 and the AEO.
The management and staff members of JAS Korea are dedicated to our worldwide trading partners, through the delivery of perfect service aimed to strengthen our trading partners’ quality, performance, and profitability. With more than 60 employees who are well experienced and educated in all aspects of forwarding and logistics and with flexibility to meet all of the requirements and challenges of the industry.
Hello JAS colleagues,
My name is Bjoern Wiede and I recently joined JAS USA as the new Trade Lane Director for our focus trade lane in Germany.
Born and raised in Germany, I have now been living stateside for the last 13 years and in the last five years, I have worked primarily in the Germany trade lane for a German based forwarder and was also involved within the Automotive market.
I am excited to join a young and dynamic team here at JAS that pushes healthy growth and is interested in expanding its service offering and customer base, specifically with my homeland.
Germany is more than beer, brats and autobahn, right? Depending on one's priorities, these are the major attributes of the small country in the heart of Europe, spanning a little more than the size of Texas. However, from a business point of view, Germany has so much “more” to offer.
Being one of the top five trading partners for the USA for many years, “Made in Germany” as a seal of quality is highly recognized amongst US companies driving exports and imports between both countries. Most German companies have since long-established a foothold in the US market and are supplying American companies and consumers with their products. Just last year, the USA became the number one trading partner for Germany whose main markets remain but are not limited to manufacturing, healthcare, chemicals and, of course, automotive. Given these attributes, JAS Germany and JAS USA have committed themselves to push the growth on the Germany trade lane and I am excited and happy to be spearheading this initiative in 2016 and going forward.

JAS Motorsports is proud to be a sponsor of Marit Stromoy, the first and only woman in history to thus far win an F1 World Cup Event!
The tidal wave of interest generated by Marit Stromoy following her epic win in the Grand Prix of Sharjah last year continues, with the first woman in history to win an F1H2O Grand Prix being understandably recognized for her outstanding achievement back home in Norway.
The 39-year-old received the accolade of athlete of the year at a glittering awards gala in Sandefjord, ahead of a host of national and international sporting stars. “The award is a great recognition [for] the sport, in competition with other more well-known sports in Norway. It's not often a motorsport, especially powerboats, is even mentioned in these contexts.”
Stromoy has been in demand in the sport press and on national TV but has also crossed the sporting divide, guesting on prime time TV on Scandinavia’s number celebrity talk show appearing alongside Abba’s Bjørn Ulvaeus. “It’s been hectic to say the least. We've had a lot of nationwide media exposure and hopefully, it will help us in the very important chase for sponsorship that we're facing these days.”
The next show after receiving the award for Marit was the F1H2O season-opener in Dubai on March 2-4.
JAS is a proud sponsor and the logistics provider for Marit, and handles the logistics and transportation of all of her racing equipment for her races all over the world.
Employees from three different JAS subsidiaries in Singapore ushered in the Year of the Monkey with a Lunar New Year dinner on January 27th at Wah Lok Restaurant, Carlton Hotel. Our President & CEO, Mr. Marco Rebuffi kicked off the event with a welcome speech where he expressed his appreciation for the hard work the employees have contributed to the company for the last year.
During the event, we had a special guest appearance by the God of Fortune who presented Mr. Rebuffi a Red Packet symbolizing good luck, prosperity and success for JAS.
In keeping with the tradition, the dinner was started with a lohei (tossing up good fortune), where everyone at the table jointly tossed the yusheng while ‘shouting’ out loud all the auspicious phrases with gusto. While everyone was enjoying their dinner, we had a Best Dressed Competition where everyone got to vote on the "Best Dressed" from the six contestants Mr. Rebuffi had shortlisted. Congratulations to Desmond and Surianti for winning everyone hearts in the contest! (Pictured below)
The event ended with Mr. Rebuffi taking group photos with each of the subsidiaries.
About 230 JAS staff members and guests from overseas gathered on January 22nd, 2016 at the Cordis Hotel in Hong Kong to celebrate JAS Hong Kong's 35th anniversary during the Annual Dinner. We are honored to have various top management and friends from around the world, including the Chairman, Mr. Bruni and his family, and President & CEO, Mr. Marco Rebuffi to grace this joyful occasion with their presence.
Apart from celebrating our 35th year anniversary, it also marked an important milestone for Mr. Alex Chau, Airfreight Director of South China & Hong Kong. Alex joined us in 1986 and in the past 30 years, he has proven to be one of our most loyal and diligent pillars of the company. To show our recognition and appreciation of Alex’s hard work, a trophy was presented to him by JAS Management.
JAS Hong Kong was initially set up as a small office with only 25 staff members. JAS now operates with more than 650 employees within 16 offices in China, including 170 employees in Hong Kong. JAS China CEO, Mr. Gabriele Benedetti believes the Success of JAS Hong Kong goes to everybody involved, he is sure that everyone is as proud and happy to witness this development as he is. Even though the family continues to grow bigger and bigger, it is fortunate that the team spirit has never been lost and the fighting spirit that everyone carries in our JAS DNA will only make the JAS future better.
Once again, Mr. Benedetti took the opportunity to thank everyone in JAS Hong Kong for their contribution to the company, as well as the continued support that they have been receiving from JAS Worldwide Management, Overseas Partners, Regional Offices and last but not least its Customers.
Nine of 10 economic and financial articles in the news have been indicating that Brazil's local economy is not performing within the minimum level to be considered “reasonable.” The scenario for 2016 is predicted to be worse than the one the country faced in 2015.
Some of the issues Brazil has faced are as follows:
- Intense corruption on different political legends (parties) and Government Companies, being that the top bribery scandals in those Companies were those controlled by the Government
- Low levels of recognition for actual, non-corrupt Government leaders, inhibiting local and international investment due to lack of confidence by Investors
- High levels of unemployment, reaching record low levels by the end of the year that had not been seen in the last 12 years
- Two digit inflation, deterring consumer power, which during the last years was one of our “locomotives” of GPD growth
Economic statistics and articles show that by the end of 2016, Brazil's economy may be 10% smaller than it was in the 1st quarter of 2014, equating the Brazilian GPD to the same situation of countries such as Greece. Therefore, leading two rating agencies to demote Brazilian financial classifications has not been seen in Brazil for many years. Difficult days have been recently endured in Brazil and lie ahead in the future. It is unfortunate that Brazil must suffer the loss of evident prosperity growth due to the internal politics that have incapacitated the country and left the government in need of assistance.
However, despite these difficulties, Brazil continues to be the 7th largest economy in the world, hitting the population of 200+ million people who are anxious to reach better days. The people of Brazil have been applying their personal efforts and extraordinary creativity, in order to rebuild the economy to its former glory. It is with this spirit that JAS Brazil and their dedicated staff know that the best way to deal with the crisis is to offer the best services with cost savings to customers.
A few months ago, JAS was able to offer cost savings to a global automotive customer when a challenge became evident. They needed to change the logistics of their air cargo from China in order consolidate their shipment in one assembly operation. Since the laws in China would prevent this from happening, JAS found a way to work around the issue that would benefit that customer. JAS Brazil worked with JAS UK in order to bring the cargo over to London from China and prepare all of the consolidation from that point. From there the shipment could proceed as planned. This project required careful strategy and planning in order to ensure the operation was carried out correctly, safely, and on time.
JAS Brazil did not only handle the customers' needs, but was also able to create significant savings for many clients through customs brokerage, road transport, and all of the taxes they face in Brazil, adding up to considerable savings. This new configuration on the shipment allowed the customer to receive smaller orders, which allowed them to take care of the demand they faced promptly, satisfying their customers and, in turn, satisfying them. This particular company has been an important customer to JAS Brazil, and this operation was the key to opening more doors of opportunity and allowed them to offer JAS services to other divisions within their company.
JAS Brazil knows the importance of satisfying the financial goals of customers and taking into consideration the current state of the organization and its metrics. Therefore, JAS Brazil is doing various analyses to detect the current and future needs of customers and to locate the possibilities of any savings that can be provided for them. With this knowledge, JAS Brazil has started offering customers options to change their road service from Argentina to ocean shipment. This would allow them to save a total of 10% on the economy costs of their logistics expenses.
Despite the doubts for a better scenario in 2016, JAS Brazil knows the importance of working together with customers to better understand their needs. Customer satisfaction cannot be improved simply by delivering on time, but by additional solutions that ensure the processes are fully functional. That is the best way to go through this phase of the current market, and with stronger and more confident relationships with all clients.
In an effort to help promote SMEs in the United States to export, JAS USA has partnered with the US Commercial Services in their Export University 101 program. This program provides valuable guidance to US companies who have foreign market interest for their products or services. The program outlines the basic steps that exporters or potential exporters need to take in order to market, sell, and ship their products overseas.
JAS USA has been working with the US Commercial Services over the past five years. Export Trade Lane Director, Nate May has been asked to speak at the upcoming Export University in Greenville, North Carolina on Wednesday, January 20th to discuss the role of the freight forwarder in the export process. This partnership has been beneficial to both parties and most importantly to the exporter. JAS' participation provides yet another resource that shippers can rely on for export assistance.
The United States Commercial Service (CS) is the trade promotion arm of the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration, which helps U.S. companies succeed in markets around the world. The impact of this work ripples throughout the U.S. economy—broadening and deepening the U.S. exporter base, removing obstacles to the export success of U.S. small and medium-sized companies, advancing U.S. business interests abroad, attracting inbound investment, and supporting job creation in the United States. In 2013, the CS helped in more than 18,000 export transactions in nearly 200 international markets worth billions of dollars.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection automated systems electronically support the facilitation of importing and exporting goods. By the end of 2016, the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) will become the Single Window - the primary system through which the trade community will report imports and exports and the government will determine admissibility. Through ACE as the Single Window, manual processes will be streamlined and automated, paper will be eliminated, and the international trade community will be able to more easily and efficiently comply with U.S. laws and regulations. Customs and Border Protection has issued a date of February 28 for a large majority of Participating Government Agency entries to take place.
JAS USA has been working diligently for months on the ACE transition and was one of the first brokers to ever file using the ACE system. The new ACE platform will be a robust system when complete but it has had its share of ups and downs during the production process. It has been a difficult path getting ACE to fruition. There have been deployments that have not worked correctly and have caused major headaches for the industry, as well as delays in programming being delivered by CBP to the software providers. This then causes delays to the industry. Some programming will be delivered by CBP to the software providers the day before the cut over.
JAS will continue to work through these issues and is currently participating in several pilots with CBP such as FDA, DOT, and the Lacey Act. While U.S. Customs & Border Protection has until the deadline of February 28th, JAS Compliance is currently taking part in daily conference calls with CBP, participating in webinars, and attending meetings and classes regularly to ensure that JAS USA is ready.
Each of the above Trade Lanes also has a Country Desk/Sales Analyst team to support development efforts. The team will focus exclusively on Strategic RFQ driven opportunities, Trade Lane Marketing, and Trade Lane Analysis. Each analyst supports their assigned trade lane and provides cross-support to each other for consistency in service to the network. USA Corporate Sales Initiative: In 2016 JAS USA has redirected two key people to take an enhanced corporate sales role that allows the company to target specific, multi-national accounts.
Please join JAS USA in wishing success to the new USA Corporate Sales Directors, John English and Silvia Torres, as they take on this new challenge.
Key Account Management Initiative: Sandra Manfredi has been promoted to Director of Key Account Management and has officially joined the JAS USA Corporate Sales & Marketing team. With this new role, JAS USA can better manage larger Regional, Multi-National, and Global accounts from the RFQ stage through implementation to ongoing account management.
The Key Account Management program will serve as the primary contact between the customer, operations, and sales. They will provide customer support, technical support, planning, and optimization for the account. The main goal of this program is to differentiate JAS' services through proactively monitoring the accounts to ensure consistent service execution, as well as drive improvement initiatives that deliver value to customers. With the Key Account Management program, JAS USA is making a commitment to better understand customers’ business needs, objectives, challenges and constraints, in order to provide real solutions.
