The beer production of one of Colombia’s largest companies relies on a steady supply of barley, imported by sea. However, their port ran into a critical issue: complete sedimentation, which blocked their monthly raw material vessel from docking. This situation put the company on the verge of a total shutdown, risking a nationwide and export production halt and a multi-million dollar loss. An immediate and creative solution was needed to prevent this impending collapse.
Leveraging in-depth knowledge of the Colombian market and established local relationships, JAS was contacted to tackle this challenge. We engineered a “Barge Transshipment Operation” that proved to be the perfect answer.
The logistics process was meticulously coordinated: instead of sailing to the original port, the barley vessel was rerouted to a nearby port. There, the cargo was directly discharged to barges, trucks for local distribution, and a warehouse. The barges then safely transported the goods directly to the client’s plant, ensuring a continuous and uninterrupted supply chain.
JAS’s solution not only solved the crisis but also delivered impressive results:
