On March 31st the HARTMANN GROUP began utilizing JAS’ charted flight operations to facilitate the supply of masks throughout Europe. Based in Heidenheim, Germany, HARTMANN is a leading provider of medical and hygiene products, with its core expertise being in wound treatment, infection prevention, surgical supplies, and personal healthcare.
HARTMANN turned to JAS to help it supply critically needed N95 masks to the governments of Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. These shipments are flown by JAS from Shanghai to Frankfurt for distribution to not only government entities, but also to pharmacies for wider distribution to non-governmental organizations and the public at large.
JAS continues to leverage its expertise in chartered flight operations, export and import clearance, and general distribution services for HARTMANN as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to put pressure on supply chains throughout the globe. JAS is committed to supporting efforts of customers like HARTMANN as they work to provide medical supplies when and where they are needed most.
When asked to comment on PPE supply chain challenges, Thomas-Garry Stiller, Senior VP of Procurement at HARTMANN remarked, “Sourcing those masks is one thing, but how to get them to Europe? Answer: JAS.”
JAS offers ongoing chartered flight operations between Shanghai and the cities of Frankfurt, Milan, and Chicago. In support of these air corridors, JAS also maintains distribution networks via its locations in the United States, Latin America, and Europe.
On Sunday, March 22nd, JAS Worldwide launched flight operations between Frankfurt (FRA) to the Rickenbacker International Airport near Columbus, Ohio (LCK) with on-forwarding services continuing to LATAM. JAS Worldwide is dedicated to meeting customer demand during the Covid-19 situation by launching additional flight operations in the most important air corridors:
JAS, the Atlanta-headquartered global freight forwarding and logistics provider, maintains that the goal is to help address the immediate needs of customers who had previously relied on routine air cargo flights between the US and Europe. JAS is enhancing its air service offerings as a result of the worldwide coronavirus pandemic, which is having a dramatic impact on capacity in the airfreight market.
“Because of the volatility of the situation, JAS is bringing its considerable air freight experience to bear to meet the needs of our customers” said Gregor Vrhunc, Senior Vice President, Global Head of Air Freight.
JAS utilizes 747 freighters to meet the heightened demand in key air corridors.
For more information contact your local JAS office.
JAS is proud to say that Protezione Civile trusted JAS with shipments vital to keeping the supply chain functioning. JAS is managing charter flights from and to several countries around the world to ensure continuity of the supply chain during the current emergency situation we, as a species face.
JAS China and JAS Italy cooperated once more in March 2020 to handle another chartered flight of relief supplies and JAS Italy is also providing domestic distribution of relief material to all the Italian regions. Specifically, JAS handled another charter flight (AN124) departed from Pudong Int'l Airport on 31st March, carrying disaster-relief materials. Off-Loading phase of this Charter flight was supervised by a special JAS employee, our own JAS Italy Managing Director, Leonardo Baldi. Baldi was the keynote speaker during an interview done for a national Italian television broadcast. During his speech, Baldi explained how JAS Italy is acting on behalf of the Italian Civil Defense and distributing relief material for many hospitals and regions throughout Italy.
JAS is proud to deliver logistics support to the Italian Protezione Civile, whom work so hard day in and day out to support the entire Italian population, and to provide the aid needed by doctors and nurses working around the clock to save lives.
JAS Worldwide knows that the further upstream your company's visibility is with your supply chain, the more opportunities there are to make decisions to alleviate or even avoid pain points caused by uncontrollable factors in your supply chain. Giving companies more control and power over their supply chain can lead to reduced costs, increased visibility, reduced manual processes, reduced errors and reworks, and most importantly meeting your customer expectations.
Order management(OM) is the administration of business processes related to purchase or sales orders for goods or services. OM promotes automation and the streamlining of order processing for businesses. OM service provides upstream visibility to order related activity from order inception to delivery at line item level.
Using OM can provide visibility and control to the upstream part of the supply chain process, allowing for decisions to be made to mitigate or even avoid uncontrollable downstream factors such as supplier & vendor discrepancies, manufacturing issues, and giving more visibly to the supplier processes. These upstream decisions can include adjustments in lead times for purchases, changes to purchase activity, and managing problem supplier activity. Without OM, visibility is limited to the the downstream part of the process, limiting or possibly even eliminating the opportunity to make decisions that would mitigate against uncontrollable factors or issues that arise.
The benefits of upstream visibility are fewer shipments, improved consolidations, timing to meet expected date requirements, container utilization, planned consolidation, less LCL and more FCL, less Air Freight, all leading to reduced costs for JAS customers.
JAS provides a single portal for all visibility to all modules via JASTrack, increasing visibility. This offers customers standard and customized reports, order integrated bookings, online order administration, upstream milestone tracking, and order details and activity tracking that includes expected dates, quantities, shipment details, and container details. The JAS OM includes online bookings tool with copy function, integration of order, booking, shipping, and receiving data, as well as the automation of documents, reducing manual processes.
To reduce errors and the need for reworking JAS uses EDI integrated Order Management, an integration of order, booking, shipping, and receiving data. This allows for the automation of documents and the re-use of data throughout process. Saving time, and generating more efficiency. This enables JAS customers to meet their customers expectations. Giving them expected dates management, expected quantity management, and quality control support processes.
Some additional benefits of JAS Order Management include identifying bottlenecks in the supply chain through visibility, communication, and reporting. All of which can help identify singular or repetitive issues that may be causing bottlenecks in the process. This visibility also lends to removing supply chain "black holes" making sure that there is no lack of visibility to any section of the supply chain process. Along with visibility, JAS Order Management also keeps logs of historical data in an organized and reportable fashion, providing empowerment to your company to make important decisions to resolve issues within your supply chain
Why choose JAS Order Management?
Being a global company, JAS has the presence available at origin to help you manage your orders directly with your suppliers. JAS is also able to levy the cost of advantages of consolidating your cargo into fewer containers through upstream visibility for better load planning. Additionally, with SKU level visiblity JAS OM allows you to manage your orders at the part level with seamless integration of order data in our web-based order and shipment tracker.

Dubai, the city that is on the world’s radar!
Just mention the D word and see the light in people’s eyes. This is the result of many years of planning, sweat, hard work and a vision like no other.
When oil was discovered in 1966, Sheikh Rashid utilized the oil revenues to spur infrastructure development in Dubai. Schools, hospitals, roads, a modern telecommunications network … the pace of development was frenetic. A new port and terminal building were built at the Dubai International Airport. A runway extension that could accommodate any type of aircraft was implemented. The largest man-made harbor in the world was constructed at Jebel Ali, and a free zone was created around the port.
Dubai's formula for development was becoming evident to everyone – visionary leadership, high-quality infrastructure, an expatriate-friendly environment, zero tax on personal and corporate income and low import duties. The result was that Dubai quickly became a business and tourism hub for a region that stretches from Egypt to the Indian sub-continent and from South Africa to what are now called the CIS countries.
Since the 1960s, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, then ruler of Abu Dhabi, and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum had dreamed of creating a federation of the Emirates in the region. Their dreams were realized in 1971 when Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah and (in 1972) Ras Al Khaimah, joined to create the United Arab Emirates.
Under the late Sheikh Zayed, the first President of UAE, the UAE has developed into one of the richest countries in the world with a per capita GDP in excess of US$17,000 per annum.
In the 1980s and early 1990s, Dubai took a strategic decision to emerge as a major international-quality tourism destination. Investments in tourism infrastructure have paid off handsomely over the years.
Dubai is now a city that boasts unmatchable hotels, remarkable architecture and world-class entertainment and sporting events. The beautiful Burj Al Arab hotel presiding over the coastline of Jumeirah beach is the world's only hotel with a seven star rating. The Emirates Towers are one of the many structures that remind us of the commercial confidence in a city that expands at a remarkable rate. Standing 350 meters high, the office tower is the tallest building in the Middle East and Europe.
Dubai also hosts major international sporting events. The Dubai Desert Classic is a major stop on the Professional Golf Association tour. The Dubai Open, an ATP tennis tournament, and the Dubai World Cup, the world's richest horse race, draw thousands every year.
JAS saw the potential of this city and that is why JAS UAE opened its doors in 2000. Since then, JAS has been a major player in the forwarding industry and managed to position itself amongst the top importers to the region. Handling a wide range of cargo variety, from Garments, Automotive to construction Materials and Oil & Gas.
The sales and management team of JAS ZA has officially accepted the monumental challenge of achieving a growth target nearly 4 times that which was achieved in the fiscal year 2017. Some may say that this kind of growth is not possible, but the team in South Africa would beg to differ!
THE CURRENT ENVIRONMENT IN SOUTH AFRICA
With the political situation in South Africa seeming to begin to settle down, business confidence and international investment in the country are on the rise. If the newly elected president of the main political party is able to continue his drive towards a non-corrupt local government and manages to turn around certain dysfunctional state owned enterprises, the country will move even further forward.
A stronger local currency, trading at levels last seen over three years ago to the US Dollar, will assist to drive the increase of imported products to the country's shores. The world’s third largest investment bank Goldman Sachs said that South Africa is “The emerging market story for 2018”, this being a good indicator that the country is now finding the right track, also predicting interest rate cuts in 2018. The one downside of a stronger local currency will be the pressure it puts on the export market.
SO WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN FOR JAS ZA?
JAS ZA has done an immense amount of groundwork in 2017, putting in place measures to ensure they achieve their objectives in 2018. Critical to the success of the team in achieving their goal is to find the right balance between import and export volumes, as well as to look at new industry verticals.
Taking advantage of the favourable import conditions to South Africa will also be key to their success at achieving the growth targets. The team has been talking with a number of blue chip organisations, and many of the opportunities they have been collaborating on will start coming to fruition in the first quarter of 2018.
In terms of a new and improved service offerings, JAS South Africa is looking to further expand in some areas of their business. Investigating the viability of a trade finance solution as an additional advantage for new & existing clients, to be better than what any other forwarder has implemented so far. This solution is quite unique to the South African market due to local customs clearing practices, as well as clients wanting one company to handle their entire foreign trade activity, from purchase of goods to Forex management all tied in to the logistics of moving their cargo from factory to final consumer. JAS South Africa will be a leader in offering a full scope of services to our Customers.
Another focus area is going to be the general African market. JAS South Africa would like to develop this very important and emerging market with the vision to become the “Control Tower” for all trade into and out of Africa. The opportunities in these markets are bountiful, with many African countries still experiencing double digit growth figures annually.
BIG WINS FOR JAS SOUTH AFRICA SO FAR...
JAS ZA has secured the customs brokerage, warehousing and last mile distribution for Hanon Systems. JAS ZA controls the imports from Thailand & Korea and has worked closely with Hanon over the past couple of years to earn this business and build this relationship.

BEARING MAN GROUP
Anver Mayet, our JAS Johannesburg Business Development Manager, has secured a five year contract with the Bearing Man Group, which will mean JAS ZA will be handling all of their ocean freight forwarding business. The expected FCL volumes are around 1440 Containers per annum.

JAS ZA will be working hand in hand with Enpings’ suppliers to ensure that the operational aspects of this large export client are handled according to the clients exacting requirements.
IN THE OPERATION - A Message from JAS South Africa
A key market differentiation as a medium sized forwarder is our service. We have to ensure as a business that there is a lot of focus in this area, to offer a personalized service to our clients by going above and beyond their expectations.
A fairly simple, but often overlooked area of many businesses is how we communicate with our clients. A cornerstone of any successful service organisation is effective communication, both internal as well as external. JAS ZA will be putting a lot of effort into this area to ensure that we communicate with our clients properly, with immediate and accurate information in a timely manner. We believe that this fairly simple philosophy will contribute immeasurably to the retention of our existing business, this being key to the team reaching their goals and targets this year.
We at JAS ZA wish everyone around the world a successful 2018, and look forward to engaging with our fellow colleagues throughout the year.
France is changing fast. With the newly elected young French president, Emmanuel Macron, who is reforming economic sectors, the French Industry is back on a positive momentum, full of dynamic entrepreneurs. One of France’s economical specialties is that it is the the home of global groups like LVMH, L’Oreal, Saint Gobain, Airbus, Renault, Danone, Schneider, all with huge export volumes. As well as on the import side, with huge retailers like Carrefour, Auchan, and Decathlon, among many others!
In terms of the freight forwarding market, France is also very dynamic and still holds as the 7th largest economy in the World. Transport volumes are increasing with great import and export, air, sea, and rail volumes. The main port for containers is Le Havre to the North of the country, but France is also reachable via the port of Antwerp in Belgium. In the South, the port of FOS/Marseille is renowned as an entry door into Europe from the Mediterranean Sea. For airfreight transport, the national platform and most important airport is located north of Paris, the Roissy-CDG airport. Another fast-growing airport is Lyon, heart of a strong industrial economy, with major international airlines, like Emirates, operating directly.
In the midst of this strong economy trend, JAS FRANCE is ready to serve you! JAS is amongst the Top 15 IATA forwarding agents in France, with 5 fully-operational offices in Paris, Lyon, Nantes, and Nice. JAS France is proud to count with a growing professional staff of 74 dedicated employees: People make the difference!
JAS France has the privilege, and unique selling point, to have its own warehouse in Paris-CDG. A state-of-the-art cross-dock warehouse of 5.000 square meters. Only a very few freight forwarders can offer this benefit on the Paris airport surroundings.
With the enthusiastic vision to develop our expertise and capabilities in the perishable business (pharma & food sector), the JAS France Managing director, Mr Laurent Gohet, recently invested in a superb cold room to attend our client’s needs.
JAS France also offers a very important customs advantage. JAS France, due to its location right outside of the airport, depends on the Marne La Vallée French Customs Department, which JAS France has worked with for more than 10 years, and built trust, understanding of our processes, and therefore are given a diligent clearing process to the full advantage of our esteemed customers.
With the desire to continue our development and strength, JAS France has the pleasure to introduce its new National Sales Director, Laurent Richard, whom joined the company in June 2017. Laurent is delighted to be part of the French team and very optimistic for the company’s growth. His market experience and sales drive will be great assets to the dynamic French market.
JAS France also recently hired a team of experienced professionals to strengthen its Sales and Operations Departments, new experts to give one of the best customer experiences in the industry. This is especially true with the complete logistics visibility that JAS offers to its clients thanks to our best-in-class operational platform, fully integrated globally, which brings “live” and highly accurate transport milestones, in addition to automated key performance indicators.
Finally, to be even more efficient in attending to our clients' needs, JAS France also structured a new French Tender & Pricing Management Team, in order to promptly answer our Customers and the JAS Network. This Team will be led by Mrs Charline Pepin, and JAS France's main objective is to answer all of your requests with the best reactivity and accuracy possible, in order to develop our business with customers, and with our partners around the world.
Vive la France! And long life to JAS France, which is ready to support your business around the world!
During the last months, JAS EMEA was delighted to strengthen its structure in our sales and ocean product structures, in order to better support our regional development and our global development.
On the Sales side, JAS EMEA invited Ms. Hilary Bragg – formally JAS WW Strategic Business Unit Manager, to become our JAS EMEA Regional Tender Manager. Hilary started with us in January and has already brought great added-value to our region, giving new support to all EMEA countries and to the other JAS regions.
To support Hilary’s team, Mr. Alberto Pittaluga arrived a couple of months ago. He is now responsible for all regional air freight tenders and also engages in building very productive automated rating templates.
On the ocean freight side, our EMEA ocean product VP, Mr. Volker Beneke, recently structured his import and export ocean lane product management. This will allow JAS to improve our buying power and to better support, in various aspects, the EMEA countries and our network.
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Sven Marsand as Regional Procurement Manager Import, and Jens Appel as Regional Procurement Manager Export. Both have an excellent background in ocean freight procurement, have worked for JAS Germany before and are ideally located to take on the new challenges.
The Regional Import Procurement goes live this month, while the Ocean Export Procurement will be fully operational as from July 2017. See below the new EMEA Regional Ocean Freight Org Chart along with roles & responsibilities.
We are excited to announce that our Antwerp team has moved to a new location in the harbor area of Antwerp.
We spent the previous six years in a building about a mile away from our new location - our old office served us well but we couldn't be more excited about our new space.
Our new office has been stripped and refurbished to a high standard to offer light and space, which adds to the well-being of our human capital.
The new office is located on the fourth floor of one of Antwerp's oldest harbor office buildings and overlooks the dock activities of the port. Staring outside, we watch the docking and loading of the vessels and containers, which makes it a lively place to work in, in the middle of all the action.
It has been an exciting six years for JAS Belgium, and we look at this new location as the start of another chapter in our history. We'll be hosting a happy hour soon for our vendors and customers, and if you're in the area, feel free to stop in and say hi!
Brussels airfreight office will also be moving shortly. In the next issue we’ll tell you everything about that move.
As informed in March by our CEO, Mr. Marco Rebuffi, JAS Worldwide and GreenCarrier Freight Services (greencarrier.com) have formed a strategic alliance with the intent to expand trade and business between the Nordic and Baltic Sea region and the rest of the world.
Since then, a sales and operations meeting took place with JAS EMEA Management. Martin Spitzli – JAS EMEA VP of Air, and François-Xavier Mollet – JAS EMEA VP of Sales, both participated in Greencarrier’s Country Management meeting in Gothenburg to integrate our two companies. Martin Spitzli also participated in Riga (Latvia) to their Air Freight Management meeting.
On his side, Brahim Jarmache – JAS WW VP Agents, is working diligently to organize all the necessary set-up with each Greencarrier country offices in order to guarantee a smooth operations and netting integration.
Now, the focus is on our mutual development to make sure we have a full grip on the potential of our development. For this, one important milestone was the selection, by François-Xavier and Martin Svantesson – CCO of Greencarrier Freight Services, of Global & Multinational Accounts that JAS and Greencarrier will target and develop together. These companies are mainly local multinationals like Alfa Laval, Huqsvarna, SKF, Eletrolux, Ericsson, Tetra Pak, among others.
The strength of Greencarrier together with our JAS Network now allows us to propose a unique service opportunity for these target accounts and we cheer for our mutual development with them in the near future.
If you have any rate and/or service requirements to develop business with Greencarrier, please send your request to the following persons:
After a couple of fantastic years, JAS Netherlands met with several challenges the second half of 2016 and has come through with flying colors. A couple of events happened more or less simultaneously on the staffing side. Losing both branch managers at almost the same time, was in the end the climax of these events.
Fortunately we have been able to find great replacements and I’m happy to introduce our new core team:
1. Daan Hoek, General Manager
Daan started mid-January and comes from the contract logistics side of CEVA, after a good couple of years on the Forwarding side of EGL.
The structured approach of CL, already helped us to get back on track and we feel our team is fully back on track to support all clients and the network with the expected proactive and professional responses.
2. Said Aharchaoui, Air Product Manager
Said joined us end of last year and comes from Yusen Logistics and has a solid track record on the airfreight product and customer service side. The Amsterdam team is fully ready to support the network to handle some new business and we really need it since we lost the famous baby milk-powder business and the Chapter 11 impact of Heli One.
3. Mischa Jeronimus, Ocean Product Manager
Mischa is working for JAS since 2014 as Operations Manager. Mischa is now tasked with the Ocean Product. The Rotterdam branch really struggled due to various consecutive staffing issues (leaving the company, sick leaves etc.), but we are happy to report that we are fully back on track and ready to make a positive difference again.
The team is excited about the improvements made and is completely ready to support all of you moving forward. So bring it on!

Bjoern joined JAS in the beginning of February and most recently worked as Trade Lane Manager for the USA and Europe with a major forwarder.
With Germany being one of the top five trading partners for the USA and the USA being the number one trading partner for Germany, “Made in Germany” as a seal of quality is highly recognized amongst US companies driving exports and imports between both countries. Most German companies have since long established a foothold in the US market and are supplying American companies and consumers with their products and vice versa. The main industries that drive the trade between these economic powers have for several years remained but are not limited to manufacturing, healthcare and chemical, and of course, the automotive industries.
Benjamin’s and Bjoern’s focus will be to intensify JAS customer relations with German and American prospects, develop new business initiatives, and expand the current business relationship with our local and global JAS customer base geared towards their trade lane.
The current customer service oriented setup in both countries, with Air and Ocean services as well as Brokerage solutions, is making JAS a strong and reliable partner for any customer needing freight forwarding services. Besides JAS' own weekly consolidated ocean container, which is routed through our gateway in Hamburg to Charleston, SC we have regular air freight consolidations in place with two or more uplifts per week from the gateway in FRA to IAH, ATL, SFO, ORD and JFK.
Next to intensifying new and current customer relations, the team’s goal is also to increase the existing range of services. The plan is to also implement consolidation services in the USA with regular air freight schedules to Frankfurt and additional consolidated ocean containers to the USA and vice versa.
JAS Germany and JAS USA have committed themselves to push the growth and the customer satisfaction on the USA – Germany trade lane and we are excited to welcome Benjamin and Bjoern to the team to spearhead this initiative.
