The Sound of Bach Brought to Rochester by JAS Sweden

September 21, 2008

University of GothenburgThe Gothenburg University is famous worldwide for its education and research. The University contacted JAS Sweden to handle shipment of a complete pipe organ, which was to be installed at Christ Church in Rochester, NY.

The organ had been built by the GOART (Gothenburg Organ Art Center) workshop at Gothenburg, a subdivision of Gothenburg University, as a research project by a joint venture of international organ builders. Sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester in collaboration with the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, the organ, which will be named the Craighead-Saunders Organ was designed according to the specifications of an organ built in 1776 by Adam Gottlob Casparini for the Church of the Dominicans in Vilnius, Lithuania. The Craig-Saunders Organ

After disassembly at the workshop, the pipe organ parts were packed into two-foot by forty-foot containers and shipped from Gothenburg to Rochester. The scope of work included not only the shipping arrangements, but also all import customs clearance formalities, unloading operation at the destination, and indoor delivery to the place in the Church where the organ was to be rebuilt.

JAS Sweden and JAS New York put their best effort into a customer-friendly solution able to cater to each and every detail of the shipment. All went well, and at the end, Johan Norrback, director of GOART, was so satisfied that he suggested to the University’s purchase department that they use JAS for all future transportations. As a result, we signed a three-year freight forwarding contract with them. A University’s transportation needs are multifaceted, and range from shipping small deliveries to shipping a delicate and precious pipe organ across the ocean. To be selected as Gothenburg University's forwarding services provider is an honor for JAS Sweden and for the JAS Group as a whole.
