The pictures show a passenger loading bridge for cruise ships which was awarded for transportation to JAS Sweden between Sweden and Belgium in the beginning of September 2008.
The bridge is 28 x 9 x 11 meters (L x W x H) and its weight is about 40 tons. It was decided that the best method to transport the bridge was to dismantle it in pieces; then it was loaded on six special trailers, the most effective way to meet the very tight time frames given for the job.
The cargo was loaded in Trelleborg on Friday, September 5 and was sent by trailer to Gothenburg for onward shipping by ferry to Zeebrugge in Belgium and for final delivery on September 08, Monday.
"A lot of various methods were evaluated" says Johan Bjorklund, MD of JAS in Scandinavia, "but together with our customer decided to use the special trailer method to get all cargo delivered safely in time".

One of the alternative options considered for this project was to transport the bridge as shown on a barge or on a vessel; due to the severe restrictions for this method and the time it would have taken, JAS Sweden and the customer decided to use trailers instead.
This is one of several pieces safely handled and transported by JAS Sweden for its customers. It gives a good idea of what kind of cargo JAS deals with in Scandinavia. "Several more bridges are to be transported next year and in particular to USA, which we do look forward to" says Johan Bjorklund.
We have together with our customer found solutions to their needs for almost 10 years now and the amount of planning and calculation done has really been beneficiary for both us and our customer. This type of transports needs careful planning and handling in order to deliver the cargo in a good and safe way.
