Old traditional forwarding at work

May 28, 2010

JAS Sweden has just been awarded a yearlong contract for handling  one of Sweden's most important export products, namely paper in reels.

One of the oldest paper mills in Sweden called Nordic Paper AB who recently purchased two other mills in Sweden namely Backhammars Bruk and Amotfors Bruk has decided to start using JAS (since a year now) and our new warehouse in Gothenburg as a stuffing center for it’s containers to Japan.  The yearly volumes are scheduled to be between 5,000 – 7,000 tons. All cargo is being loaded in Gothenburg before sent via ocean to it’s final destination.

For JAS Sweden this means that cargo arrives on truck to the warehouse where each reel is visually checked and noted if damages and/or any other important items are shown on the cargo. At the same time a special report is sent back to the customer with all vital information. After a few days the containers arrive and the reels are loaded into the containers by JAS's own clamp truck. The containers are loaded to it’s maximum capacity of approximately 24,500 – 25,000 kg each.

All loading and securing is performed by our own staff and equipment. Old traditions such as binding nets to secure the cargo is performed.

The picture show the first net that JAS and MD Johan Björklund arranged together with his staff on the very first container that was handled.

"It took us a good hour to figure out how this was done" says Johan and adds that he learnt the method many years ago from the old stevedores in Gothenburg port at a time when basically all handling was done manually.

"I am proud to have extra quality staff here in Sweden who are  willing to learn the old methods and who quickly learn how the work is done." Johan says

During the first loading for this customer the Warehouse Manager, Mr. Dennis Kaldrup, the General Manager, Jonas Mattson, Monica Goles from the warehouse and Johan himself attended to the work. The volume handled was 200 tons and about 325 reels in different sizes all performed within 3 working days. We utilized 8 x 40' containers in total.

"This is a great start and we very much like to continue handling this type of cargo and with increased volumes."  Johan says.

JAS Sweden is a very customer oriented organization and we enjoy finding solutions to our customer's various needs and demands.

Johan Bjorklund
