Global Surf Industries, a leading manufacturer and distributor of surfboards, was looking for a logistics partner to alleviate their inventory management headaches of unreliable inventory levels, high error rates on order picking and lack of management reporting information.

Taking advantage of GSI’s EDI capabilities, JAS designed a solution to eliminate all manual data entry from the receiving and shipping process utilizing Smart Label technology within our Orbis application.

When the container arrives at the JAS facility the boards are unpacked and scanned for verification against the previously received electronic packing lists, then given an individual Smart Label before being scanned into a warehouse location.

When the Shipping Orders are received electronically from GSI they are loaded onto the hand held scanners to verify the picked boards against the order items before printing the shipping labels and confirming the shipment.

Using this process JAS was able to receive, unload, label and put away 8,000 surfboards in three days at our Atlanta and Los Angeles distribution centers.

If fact the initial transfer of product was so successful that GSI “found” additional surfboards that no one knew existed.

GSI now have real-time on-line access to their inventory in both locations plus numerous management reports that allow them to better monitor and control their business.
