JAS Milan recently acquired and coordinated the transport of a water purification plant to one of Japan's nuclear power plants. This plant, produced by Veolia Water Solutions and Technologie Italia S.r.l. Di Zoppola (PN), will help Japan recover its nuclear power production to normal levels following the devastating Tohoku earthquake and tsunami earlier this year. The country's population has experienced blackouts and power rationing since earthquake and tsunami triggered a number of nuclear accidents, greatly impacting Japan's energy output.
Transport occurred July 8-9, 2011 using an AN 124/100, which departed from Brescia Airport in Italy and traveled to Narita Airport in Japan. The total shipment was 54,000 kgs/260 CBM. Due to the large dimensions of some pieces (Including one with 710 x 230 x 291 cm, 10,000 kgs), land transport to Brescia airport utilized five large capacity trucks.
JAS continues to be a key partner for goods exchange between Italy and Japan, and is grateful to have played a part in helping Japan recover from this disaster. For any additional information please kindly refer to Mr. Francesco De Pascali (JAS Milan branch).
