When a gas turbine engine weighting 11,000 kilos that measured 434x188x203 cm is desperately needed to be placed on board a FPSO off the coast of Labuan for a major oil company, it took little time for Jas Malaysia’s dedicated Oil & Energy team to divert one Hercules C-130 in order to accommodate the uplift from Singapore to Labuan.
The engine had earlier left San Diego in California in a freighter aircraft for Singapore before it was flown into Labuan by the Hercules. Upon its arrival at Labuan airport, the consignment was unloaded within hours onto a low-bed road trailer and arrived at the consignee’s yard at the Asian Supply Base in the Ranca-Ranca Industrial Estate at 1430 hours.
Tight synchronization was orchestrated by the JAS team. As Stephane Marot, MD of JAS Malaysia explains: “We managed a brilliant 5 days door-to-door from the time we collected the unit in San Diego until the delivery at the supply base. Numerous obstacles we have had to face from aircraft availability, traffic rights, load ability did not prevent us from making it happened for our client. Our client was overwhelmed by the achievement. They were also glad to hear they were the first one to land such type of aircraft in Labuan !”
