Door-to-door logistics for the Kawerau paper mill handled by the JAS Group.
When Carter Holt Harvey, one of New Zealand’s largest companies, planned the major upgrade of the Number One paper machine at their Kawerau pulp and paper mill, they called in JAS Jenners Worldwide Ltd to handle the door to door logistics of all imports for this project.
The upgrade required shipments from Japan, Belgium, Germany, USA, Australia, Canada, Sweden and Singapore, by sea freight and airfreight to Auckland, New Zealand plus a shipment of components from Melbourne, Australia to Canada and then the completed articles from Canada to Auckland.
Whilst many of the 35 shipments were FCL or LCL, the most challenging was a break-bulk piece from Graz in Austria. This was carted to the port of Antwerp and loaded onto the Seatrade vessel “POLARLIGHT’ for discharge at Auckland and then road transported to Kawerau, 300 km South of Auckland. The largest piece measured Length 10.4m x Width 4.8m x Height 3.68m and weighing 36,000 kgs. Other components in this shipment were stowed in 7 x 40’ containers on the same vessel.
On completion of the project, Project Manger Kajal Mukherjee of consulting engineers Beca AMEC Ltd wrote “It has been a wonderful association with JAS Jenners. We have thrown enough curlies at you, but you have always come at the top of it.”
This project has been another example of the quality service provided by JAS Jenners Worldwide Ltd involving many staff members and offices of the JAS Worldwide Group.
